Women above 40 are encouraged to manually detect possible tumours in their breasts (and other parts of their bodies), by touching and feeling themselves in shower or in bed.

I agree that it's very important, to prevent in the first place.
Go see your Dr if needed (in case your fingers and brain are not coordinated) and always be on the look out. It's great to read someone who cares. I know some people who lost the battle and some who are winning the battle. Cancer is everybody's war.

Prevention, reading and learning are always a plus in my mind when it comes to health.
It is reported that 5% to 10% of breast cancers are related to an inherited defect in one of two breast cancer genes (BRCA-1 or BRCA-2).
Certain people have a higher chance of inheriting BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene changes.

* Jewish women are more likely to be BRCA gene carriers. Some experts recommend gene tests for women who are Ashkenazi Jews (Jews whose ancestors came from Eastern Europe) if they have one or both of the following: 2
o Any first-degree relative with breast or ovarian cancer. First-degree relatives are parents, sisters and brothers, and children.
o Two second-degree relatives on the same side of the family with breast or ovarian cancer. Second-degree relatives are aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and grandparents.
* If you are not Jewish, some experts recommend a gene test if you have one or more of the following: 2
o Two first-degree relatives with breast cancer, one of whom was diagnosed before age 50
o Three or more first- or second-degree relatives with breast cancer, diagnosed at any age
o Both breast and ovarian cancer in the family
o A first-degree relative with cancer in both breasts
o Two or more relatives with ovarian cancer
o One relative with both breast and ovarian cancer
o A male relative with breast cancer
http://www.webmd.com/breast-cancer/breast-cancer-brca-gene-test

I am not a big fan of all the testing they do for cancer but do agree with a blood test that puts the ball back in your court and pushes the act of Prevention.

Harry you are very right, but I would suggest seeing several Doctors and do research. Most doctors only only know what they are taught and that is fed to them through the FDA and Big Pharma as evidence of this new finding;
The health community is up in arms over the discovery that a highly-respected and influential clinical researcher, Dr. Scott Reuben, fabricated the data used in over twenty pharmaceutical studies published in peer-reviewed medical journals. http://www.naturalnews.com/025852.html
