In February 2009, Christine and her two daughters, Katelyn and Carly travelled to Washington, D.C., for Capitol Hill Day. Both her girls have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

When the girls began showing signs of psoriasis, Christine and her husband had no idea what to think. Not only did they not know anyone with the disease, but their symptoms were severe. Doctors were hesitant to treat them with anything more than over-the-counter treatments. At the ages of 4 and 7, both girls began showing signs of psoriatic arthritis.

Like any mother, Christine wants her daughters to have the best quality of life possible and worries about the co-morbidities associated with psoriasis.

Kill The Kilometer! Whatever That Is

The latest shot in our Cold War with the Metric System occurred yesterday when an ice cold 2 liter Coke nearly fell on my head! FYI, the Metric System consists of weights and measures similar to, but not congruent with, our normal system, but if Monty Python were still alive, he'd call it the Silly System!

Many Americans know our basic unit is the inch. To see one, take your thumb and forefinger and hold them up. The distance in between is automatically an inch. Ask some Metric "expert" to show you a meter, and he'll point to a box-like thing on the side of his house!

Unlike the Metric System, we know how terms like "inch" got its name. It's the sound you make to describe the distance between your thumb and forefinger! What would the old saying be otherwise: "Give them the distance between your thumb and forefinger and they'll take a mile?"

The Metric System is based on multiples of ten - but that only makes sense as long as our number system is Base 10 which was imposed on us by space aliens. Change the base and all you've got is a "re-purposed" lamp for an HGTV show!
