Aspartame Part 1: Defense

LifestyleHealth, Sports & Fitness

I like to look at both sides of things before making my own decision about what to do about it. I've been hearing a lot about aspartame, good and bad, and decided to look into it on my own. This post is about the positive facts I've read. I'll be honest though and tell you that I had to weed through a lot of negative web pages to find positive ones; most of which are companies that sell aspartame sweeteners.

The first site I visited was The Aspartame Information Service. This is the opening paragraph from their website:

Aspartame is a low calorie sweetener that helps people to control their weight. It is made from two building blocks of protein, just like those found naturally in many everyday foods such as meat, fish, cheese, eggs and milk. Aspartame is digested by the body in exactly the same way as these other protein foods and so does not bring anything new to our diet. It has been safety-tested in over 200 studies and has been approved for use in foods and drinks by more than 100 countries. People all over the world have been enjoying the taste of aspartame for more than twenty five years.

Aspartame Part 2: Prosecution

Please visit Aspartame Part 1: Defense for the up side of aspartame. In this post I'll be sharing the down side with the information I've found on the internet. On the site Dorway to Discovery they suggest Which Sweeteners to Use:

Acceptable choices
The following are healthy choices:

  • Sugar – granulated, confectioner’s, or brown
  • Cane sugar crystals
  • Turbinado and various raw sugars
  • Honey, Molasses, Pure maple syrup
  • Rice syrup and similar syrups
  • Stevia (an herbal no-calorie sweetener found in the supplements section of your supermarket or a health food store)

Acceptable, but don’t overdo
When a sugar name ends in “ol” that means it is an alcohol sugar. Too much has a laxative effect.

Less desirable

Questionable

Do not use

Yup, that's good ole aspartame at the top of the "do not use" list.Aspartame: One Man's Profit Another Man's Poison is an extensive look into the history of aspartame.Janet Starr Hull has a great website full of information including the side effects of aspartame as well as a detox program

Cancer: WAGG.it Flies the PINK RIBBON and Why You May Not Wanna Do Likewise

Today I came across a site called WAGG.it   Wagg.it is a fun site with a fun "footer" (paw prints!)   It's similiar to Technorati or Digg but the graphics are more cheerful.  Lots of nice categories including a section for entrepeneurs to add their business profiles - this part here reminds me of the profiles in LinkedIn.com  It has a "Monetizing your Blog"  section in its blog.

Wagg.it also pays you 10%  commission for every person you successfully refer to it website optimization service/programmes.  (I have not signed up for it yet but it does not look like in my high-list of To-do stuff at this moment.)  It is definitely much more well-designed than my very-neglected personal blog.

If I can write all nice little things about Wagg.it perhaps I'd win a prize but that's not why I am blogging about Wagg.it  I urge you to try your luck - BLOG and TWEET about them - and you may perhaps win US$50 (top prize). I WISH ALL ENTRANTS GOOD LUCK!  :)

Err...nope, I did not enter their contest although I did tweet their link so people can submit their stories to WAGG.it

Who are Genetically-Modifying Mother Nature's Natural Seeds?

There are many bio-tech companies who are genetically modifying our foods and Earth's natural seeds.  However one giant biotech and agricultural company stands out - MONSANTO.  Monsanto is modifying 90% of the world's natural seeds.  (UK-based Novartis AG comes in a close second of the world's largest agricultural company.).

Monsanto does not sell directly to you, the consumer.   Monsanto (with the help of Donald Rumsfield) gave this world harmful artificial sugar, Aspartame.  Monsanto now wants to modify SEEDS of fruits, etc.

If you are not aware of who Rumsfield is, here's some quick info.  He used to work for Monsanto, then FDA (to say aspartame is safe) and then moved on to become USA's Secretary of Defense.  The man who was responsible for making Bush believe that a war against Iraq was justifiable and necessary (rumoured that he has some help from Dick Cheney), he stepped down in November 2006.  [ More info

[ I am blogging a lot about foods these days (or what's in them).  They have a direct impact to our health.  This blog entry is part of a 7-part series (of which I may post one a day or several parts in a day)!  Should a link not work, please do not panic - do check back to Bloggersbase the next day for fresh Health-related Content!  THANK YOU FOR READING!   No voting needed unless you really wish to!   I encourage you to drop a comment here or tweet me.   May everything good come your way!  :-)  ]

An accidentally cut piece of apple left in "highly-trafficked" area of the kitchen attracted ants within 30 minutes.  But have you ever seen a fruit where no ants nor flies come to it after it's opened for more than 9 hours in tropical Singapore?  In room temperature and away from direct sunlight.  I have - just 3 weeks ago (May 2009)!   It was a genetically-modified durian !

The same results for MARGARINE
