Job Hunting Tips in a Hard Market

DOW Below 7000, First time since 1997

Finding a job in a tight market is a challenge many are facing these days of the downturned economy.  As a manager standing on the other side of the desk, let me give you a few tidbits of information that may help you find that job.  A couple of months ago, one of our satellite offices placed an ad for one data collector.  He had more than 2000 responses to that one small simple ad.  That may sound depressing to you, but if you show a little motivation and take advantage of your friends and neihbors' willingness to look out for you, you may find looking for a job more rewarding than following ads.  Managers are busy people and do not want to spend a month dealing with 'extra' duties interviewing prospective employees.  Very few companies will be placing ads in this market.  That means its up to you to go knocking to find out if anybody is hiring.

Mobile Means Rugged

I work for a living.  My job requires me to use mobile gadgets.  It requires me to use them outdoors and in all kinds of weather.  Doing an outside job in foul weather is bad enough without having to coddle and baby my tools of the trade.  What do I have to do to protect my gadgets?  I have to order and pay $50 extra for a special case known as an OtterBox for my pda.  I have to forgo my bluetooth earpiece and pack my cell phone deep in a dry pocket in my raincoat.  Ever tried to answer a cell phone on a rainy day from a dry pocket?  The cell phones and pdas and tablets and all the other gadgets that claim the mil-spec for ruggedized are usually more than twice the price while simultaneously offering half the features.

So far, nobody has produced a true all in one.  I want a full function computer/phone combination that fits in my pocket.

Toshiba is releasing its latest development in flash memory.  They have produced a 2 1/2 inch solid state digital (SSD) flash drive capable of replacing your laptop or desk top computer's platter hard disc drive. (HDD) Using Multi-level nano technology, the drive is 512 Gigabyte and uses much less battery power, is absolutely silent and durable.

512GB SOLID STATE DRIVE
Novatel and others bring us the USB cell stick in such a compact package that data phone service can be added to literally any device we can imagine or my preference is the tiny data card that plugs into any pmcia slot and connects you to the cell network for high speed internet access.

Two Kinds Of Christians By Bob Westbrook - April 17, 2005 -

Source: Trumpet Sounds

A March 31 open letter issued by the World Council of Churches denounced "repeated declarations by the (Israeli) government's top leaders" that "all of Jerusalem will belong to Israel". This organization, which represents a large portion of institutional Christendom, has for years stood in solidarity with the Muslim Arabs against what they call Israel's "illegal occupation of Palestine". This contradicts the viewpoint of many born-again Christians who hold to a literal interpretation of the Bible. They support Israel's possession of the entirety of Jerusalem as its eternal capital, with Judea and Samaria as the historical heartland of Israel.

Christian Judgment

Noah Webster, one of our founding fathers knew the Bible better than perhaps any other of the founding fathers and employed it to author the first American dictionary.  Here is how Webster defines judging and since the topic of judgment is so tied to reputation, I included the definition of ‘reputation’ from that Dictionary

  • JUDG’ING, ppr. Hearing and determining; forming an opinion; dooming.
  • REPUTA’TION, n. [L. reputatio.]      1. Good name; the credit, honor or character which is derived from a favorable public opinion or esteem. Reputation is a valuable species of property or right, which should never be violated. With the loss of reputation, a man and especially a woman, loses most of the enjoyments of life.  The best evidence of reputation is a man’s whole life.  2. Character by report; in a good or bad sense; as, a man has the reputation of being rich or poor, or of being a thief.
