A man named Marcus Henderson Wilder who walked 600 miles through Spain at age 69, is apparently publishing a book on "Israel and Palestine." He asked honest questions about the region and its history, which he researched. Answers to some of these questions, called "Israel and Palestine Chapter One", are on his website.
I don't know what, if any, connection he has or has had with Israel, but he 'discovered' facts which the world at large does not recognize, in its vilification of and blame on Israel for the situation of the Arabs vis-a-vis the Jewish State. Seems that many more should read this when his book is published in April. Here is an excerpt:

The 1844 census of Jerusalem found 7120 Jews...5760 Muslims...3390 Christians.
In 1869, Mark Twain wrote of the emptiness of the land, of traveling all day without seeing a human being on the roads or in the countryside.

A lot of press seems to go to the numbers of the Final Solution, without referencing what established the size of the problem the Final Solution 'solved'.
It was a global 'problem', not a German one. Despite contributions to human knowledge, despite most cultures noting the influence of Jewish writings on their culture, it seemed in the years leading up to World War two that nobody wanted Jews. For various reasons, they were a 'problem'. They even had a conference on the 'problem' in July of 1938 in France, the Evian Conference On Jewish Refugees. The statement issued there began,
Considering that the question of involuntary emigration has assumed major proportions and that the fate of the unfortunate people affected has become a problem for intergovernmental deliberation; http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Holocaust/evian.html
There was a lot of talk about why each nation couldn't take more people: it was in the years of the Depression, and many other excuses. In the end they agreed to meet again and talk some more about it.

"The Iranian nation has seen many displays of this kind, the Zionists and Americans instructed it," the Iranian IRNA news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying.
Everything that goes against the regime in Iran is a Zionist/US plot. If there is a traffic jam in Tehran it's because the evil Zionists somehow got into the system and wanted to create road rage. As if the Zionists didn't have better things to do. If a computer goes awry and paychecks aren't distributed then the Americans hacked the system to embarrass Iranian business. Is anything in Iran ever the fault of Iranians?
The fact of the matter is that the younger generation of Iranians are tired of living under oppression and are now doing exactly what Momo Ineedajob and his cronies did 30 years ago. Apparently he doesn't like the shoe being on the other foot. At some point the Ayatollah is going to have to make a decision. Either toss Momo and placate the masses, even if only figuratively, or attack his own people.

Apparently so, according to some research being done in Germany. Scientists are finding that some species of birds are actually evolving into separate, distinct species thanks to bird feeders changing their natural habits. This is interesting, as it could change how science views evolution and is proof that animals can adapt more quickly to changes in their environment than previously thought.
The study, done at the University of Freiberg, shows that Central European Blackcap Warblers have split into two separate reproductive groups. One group is behaving as Warblers always have, migrating and pairing with little change in habit. The other group, comprising about 30% of the population, has changed and no longer migrates, staying put in their various European homes thanks to humans giving them food through the winter. This change has happened in only about 30 generations, must faster than would have been expected. Further, birds in Britain have evolved distinctively different beaks and wings, no longer having to fly as far and subsisting on a diet heavier in seeds and nuts. Thanks to bird feeders. The two groups of Blackcaps are now two isolated reproductive groups, which means their splitting will evolve even further with time. |

Criticism, though important, is not action. Criticism will not stop a terrorists from shooting rockets or blow up buses with children. Criticism will definitely have no affect on Iranian nuclear ambitions. The fact that Russia and China have now signed on to a deal regarding Iran's nuclear facilities has no meaning nor impact on the reality. Iran has already said no. Why should they change their minds now?
The development is significant because it groups Russia and China with the four other powers - the US, Britain, France and Germany - in unified criticism of Iran's nuclear program. Russia and China have acted as a drag on Western calls for tougher action against Iran.
They are "unified" in criticism. Only the press could spin this as something worth printing. Is there unity in action? Of course not. I am unified with numerous people about how bad the burgers are at certain burger joints yet they are still open and making millions of dollars daily. Who really cares about criticism? Criticism didn't stop Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, or the Ayatollah in the past why should it stop the Ayatollah now?

In the wilds of the nations, it may be a matter of life and death to know what type of animal a nation is, and the habits of that animal. Very young children often mistake dogs for cats, or anything furry with legs for a domestic pet. An adult should be able to recognise a wild animal from a tame one. An expert who knows and understands wild animals will be able to handle a wild animal that an ordinary person should avoid. Internationally, it helps to be an expert on animals. I'll explain. Iran, Persian cat or Bear?We keep hearing that Iran (Persia) is a cat. It is persistent. I have found recently the wiki-answer to the national animal for Iran is 'a Persian cat'. And historically this 1911 British cartoon from Punch also has the same idea .
(Caption was "If we hadn't a thorough understanding, I (British lion) might almost be tempted to ask what you (Russian bear) are doing there with our little playfellow (Persian cat)." Source Wikimedia Commons) But Iran does not associate itself, and has never associated itself, with such an ordinary domestic animal. In the same way as someone from Hamburg might not relish you asking for a hamburger, and if you did they will give you an open frikadelle |
