Privacy rights vs. privacy rights - the intersection of photography and facial recognition

Law and SocietyCivil Rights

[Disclosure: The author is employed in the biometrics industry, and has worked for and worked with several companies that offer facial recognition solutions.]

While the general public is hearing more and more about facial recognition these days, it's actually been around for a while. Briefly, a facial recognition system works by comparing features from a face against features from another face, or from an entire database of faces. And it's those databases that are the subject of discussion.

The effects of Liberalism on the American justice system.

In America we try our very best to execute those guilty of crimes against their fellow man (e.g. Murder)In places like the Middle East people are executed for simply being different. If you are gay, you are hung. If you are a woman who has been raped, it is your fault and you will be stoned to death. If you are a woman who dares to socialize with another man who is not related to you. You will be stoned to death. In China people are imprisoned, tortured, and murdered for the most trivial of crimes, as the Chinese will do whatever it takes to keep order and keep up the appearance of a civil society. We are not barbaric, to compare the current state of the death penalty in the US and how it is used rarely compared to that of foreign countries is absurd. We kill murderers who kill in cold blood and admit it. When you take another life without just cause your life becomes forfeit and should be at the mercy of the victims family or the ruling authority of the place where you live.

Starting in the late 1960's judges and lawyers with too much compassion started down a path that led to the countries crime rate skyrocketing. Light sentences, weekend furlough programs, and other ideas meant to ease the burden on the criminal and appear more fair. Willie Horton who was serving a life sentence for murder was released on a 'weekend furlough' program by then governor Michael Dukakis. While on his leave he committed assault, armed robbery, and rape. To me the most offensive

When The New America Foundation commissioned a poll of Israelis in order to promote their pro-peace agreement agenda (that’s “peace agreement” rather than “peace” because it is hardly a foregone conclusion that “peace” would ultimately result from a “peace agreement) they tried to balance the poll by including a section raising possible bad results from a peace agreement with the Palestinians (see poll questions below).

And while the survey certainly found indications that Israelis were pessimistic about Palestinian compliance (even Israeli Arabs think attacks against Israeli would continue after a deal 69%:27% as compared to 82%:15% among Israeli Jews and Russians), the poll questions themselves are seriously handicapped by the mindset of the New America Foundation.

Here is what Israelis think as indicated time and again by polls designed by Israelis:

"Equality under and before the law is a solemn promise conveyed to all our citizens in the Constitution itself."
~~ John Shelby Spong ~~

This essay was posted on Facebook and attributed to former Bishop John Shelby Spong. I have not been able to substantiate that he drafted it. No matter, because it is brilliant. So I am sharing it because I agree wholeheartedly.
