The Mini 9 is the first generation netbook manufactured by Dell. The Mini 9 meets all the requirements for a portable, lightweight netbook. It weighs just above 2 lbs. and is just 1.2 inches thick.
The Mini 9 comes standard with the Ubuntu operating system and features the new Intel Atom processor. The Atom Processor is the smallest and most energy efficient chip in the world. All Mini 9’s comes with a 1.66 GHz processor having a 533 Mhz FSB with 512k of cache. It also has a 8.9 inch LED display capable of handling a 1024 x 600 resolution.
The entry level Mini 9 is priced at $349 and has 512 MB of RAM and a 4 GB Solid State Drive. The Mini 9’s do not contain any internal fans making them very quiet, but they do face some overheating issues. Also the use of a Solid State Hard Drive eliminates any sound coming from the Hard Drive. If a consumer wants some more power and functionality they will be able to upgrade to 1 GB of RAM and a 16 GB hard drive which also features Windows XP Home Edition and is priced at $449. This package is the best deal on the Dell website if you are looking for an all around well-built netbook.
All Dell Mini 9 Netbooks come standard with 3 USB 2.0 ports, a RJ 45 ethernet port and most importantly a 3-in-1 Media Card reader to add much more room to save your files in. Of course, they also feature a 802.11g mini-card to connect to the internet, wirelessly. It also has an integrated Bluetooth card.
Dell is also offering 2 GB of online storage for free if you buy a Mini 9. The Mini 9 has decent battery life and lasts about 4 hours. The opinion of Crazy For Tech is that Dell offers the best service but does not necessarily have the most innovative or best product in the market. Dell will replace your system very easily and has a great customer service department but you will not necessarily get what you paid for when it comes to hardware.
