This post is part of a series regarding techniques to improve general user experience with Windows Vista. You can read the original post to check out the rest of the tutorials.
RDC (Remote Differential Compression) is a feature that measures the changes in files over a network to transfer them with minimal bandwidth rather than transferring an entire file that has previously been moved. By constantly checking for file changes, this service can slow down performance over a network.
In order to turn it off, follow these steps:
-
Open Control Panel in Classic View.
-
Go to Programs and Features
-
In the left sidebar, look for Turn Windows Features on or off link and click it. Accept the UAC prompt.

- In the windows that appears, look for Remote Differential Compression and untick it. Click OK and wait for the settings to be applied

Note: you can turn on or off other features of Vista in the same manner.
