Reports suggest that Google is in late stage talks with Twitter for acquiring the microblogging service.
Twitter lets people post short 140-character messages; people often subscribe to follow the stream of these tweets from acquaintances and, increasingly, companies and celebrities.
Twitter isn't just about sharing with friends, though. It's increasingly about search as well.
Google main soure of profit is due to its sophisticated search capabilities. Twitter would fit well with Google in its attempt to become a large social hub. Facebook which attempted to acquire Twitter in 2008 is another example of how Internet can serve as a rich medium for social interactions.
Twitter is not just about sharing with friends. Twitter is working on the search side as well.

Social media are distinct from industrial media, such as newspapers, television, and film. While social media are relatively cheap tools that enable anyone (even private individuals) to publish or access information. Social media can take many different forms, including Internet forums, weblogs, social blogs, wikis, podcasts, pictures and video. So it's essential to develop your brand or yourself in the social media. Some of the monstor social media networks are Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Myspace, Flickr, Mybloglog, Friendfeed.

Social networks can be great for individuals and for organisations. 150 million people have a Facebook account and many businesses are starting to see the benefits of the platform. The problem is that most social networks and services are only available to users when they have them visible in a web browser. You have no idea what your friends and colleagues are doing on Facebook unless you visit the website. Many people use more than one network and that means visiting numerous sites which can be time consuming.

Thanks to @VinylFreak from twitter for finding this on EngadgetHD. It seems that MS is advertising to fill a new position within the Zune team. From the article: A recent Zune job posting says the boys down Redmond-town are looking for someone to come up with "innovative user interfaces for delivering a rich, deep interactive media consumption experience in a living room environment." That sounds to us like integration of the Zune software team into the ConnectedTV division is starting to kick into gear — the listing also specifically mentions on-demand audio and video content, which seem like a natural direction for ZunePass.
We can only hope that we might be seeing a glimmer of hope at getting Zune integration with Media Center. Since being split from the hardware team and moved in with eHome, we’ve all been thinking about it. Someone in the community who wants this and can do the job should apply ASAP!
