Polly Pocket Dies, Death by Toaster

EntertainmentHumor

*This is a true story*

Polly Pocket lived a hard, twisted life in this house. She was in and out of the mouths of babies and toddlers pratically everyday of her life. Drowning in pools of water, stepped on by gargantuan Mommy figures who never saw her passed out in the middle of the living room floor. She was no stranger to cobwebs under the couch and the change, crumbs and goop found in the couch cushions. Her hair would change to pink when left in water...I can't imagine how pruny she was. She never failed my daughters fun though and for that I thank her. Baby Hulk, a.k.a my 1 year old little girl, loves to torture and abuse random objects. Today while I was doing the dishes, the baby put Poor Polly in the toaster. Wouldn't you know I couldn't get the bottom of the toaster off? huh. (Of all the days to quit coming off). All of her limbs kept getting more and more tangled in the coils. I knew that if I set it down and walked away, tomorrow's Bagel would be a disaster so I tried to save Polly's life for a little over 15 minutes. I got her out, but the damage was too brutal for an open casket. Polly was 2 weeks old. Polly had a very fun filled 2 weeks of life. Polly is gone.

Mohandas Gandhi (1869–1948), also known as Mahatma Gandhi, was the inspiring and unstoppable political and spiritual leader of the Indian independence movement. He advocated and practiced total non-violent mass civil disobedience, which led India to independence from the British and inspired civil rights movements around the world. He is officially honored in India as the Father of the Nation.

Gandhi said:

You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.

We must become the change we wish to see in the world.

An error does not become truth by reason of multiplied propagation, nor does truth become error because nobody sees it.

An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind.

Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances.

A Friend Died Today - 5 Ways To Cope With Loss, Grief and the Fear Of Your Own Mortality
  - Jonathan Lockwood Huie

As I write this, the house is quiet. My wife and her good friend are attending a funeral. Their long-time mutual friend and fellow artist, who I never met, died suddenly at 62, leaving a husband in chronic ill health.

I first became aware that death - for anyone - is never far away when a sixth grade playground chum committed suicide. I had been aware that old people died - but "old" had seemed very remote to my twelve year old self. Instantly death became very real - something that could, and did, happen to anyone.

Having reached my sixties, death is becoming a more and more familiar companion - it is no longer something that happens to grandparents or parents - it is now something that often happens to peers. A surprising number of my friends have also lost children to various calamities.
