Yes, we can replace the irreparable dayschool system.

There is a way out of the dayschool crisis - a way that gives every Jewish child an education that is both academic and Torah based.  A way that cuts costs down to a fraction of what parents are now paying for tuition.  A way that reduces costs to nothing but textbooks and materials and the teachers' stipends.  A way that has been tested for two decades now by other religious groups and works so well that the kids in these environments test far and away above the national averages academically and still learn and retain their religious classes.  A way the keeps the financially strapped Jewish kids separate from the dysfunctional, failing, and decadent public school system.

What is that way?  Homeschool cooperatives.

Study: Homeschoolers score 37 points higher
Costs also average $500, compared to $10,000 at public school

American dayschools in deep trouble.

There are probably upwards of 100 American UO and Chereidi schools that have not paid their teachers in months, some not for the last couple of years - yes, years. It doesn't take a PhD in rocket science to see this can't last forever. This group of teachers, fed up, quietly complained to the state wage and labour board, apparently. We should support their courage, because they will no doubt be reviled as "informers" for the heinous crime of wanting the Torah upheld. You know, the Torah that says it is against God's will - a SIN, class! - to withhold people's wages from them? That Torah.

Salaries unpaid at academy in Marlboro

...Staff members have filed a complaint with the state Department of Labor about the school's failure to pay them at least two months' salaries.

...the state "has the right to go in and inspect (a business') books, and we try to get the wages back for the employee" if a business is in violation of labor laws.

Deutsche Bank Study Says Housing Prices Will Continue to Fall

If you listen to the elected and appointed people in Washington, you might think that the worst of the current economic crisis is behind us. It’s no wonder really. For the past couple of weeks all that the evening news seems to focus on is car sales. After all, Ford did post more than $2 Billion in quarterly profits, and the Cash for Clunkers program has actually emptied some car dealers of their inventory. But the problems with the economy started in home mortgages, not cars. And most reports on the matter say that government programs to help consumers modify their mortgages are failing by and large. Then last week Deutsche Bank – one of the largest home mortgage providers in the US and a well respected institution – released a report that the worst of the economic crisis may actually still be to come. It says that by 2011 nearly half of all homeowners with mortgages will owe more on their property than it is worth.

Get Help For Depression and Mood Fluctuations During Economic Crisis

It is fair to say that the economic blows have an impact on us. The economy is still spinning and emotions are even more tenuous as people try to get into the swing of daily routine that just doesn’t have the usual and much needed momentum.

Right now, many people are feeling emotional blahs and financial blues so much so that it is interfering with their every day functioning at home or work. One of the most difficult things for some people to do is to reach out and get support from a professional counselor. Especially when they have not experienced depression or a chronic low mood in the past, they tend to brush off their low mood, several times a day, ignoring the feelings.

If you are currently experiencing a low depressed mood every day it does not mean that you have a clinical depressive disorder or need medication or long-term therapy or even that you are weak and lazy. But, you might do well to get some feedback and support from a professional counselor in your community or referred by your regular doctor.

These are just some of the common symptoms of depressed mood;

IMF Report highlights tough times ahead

When it comes to mainstream economists working for big institutions, they always seem to simply confirm what everyone already knows and usually months after it is blindingly obvious. The same economists who were unable to predict the downturn now can tell us what we need to do to get out of it. Even after it was clear we were in the middle of one and for months economists, often with a interest in 'bull' markets kept telling us nothing was wrong.

The latest report by the enforcer of neo-liberalism, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), confirms that Ireland is the most exposed 'developed' economy. The latter categorisation is likely to be challenged as the extent of the collapse ripples out across our society but the fact that Ireland is maximally exposed is all too obvious to those who have had to endure temporary or longer-term unemployment or wage cuts.

The importance of this IMF report is not the headlines but the detail. It is a window into the future and it confirms all the predictions Socialism or Barbarism

Politics in Northern Ireland

When you cross the borderline that divides Ireland, you don't notice many differences. The countryside is still lush and beautiful, the people are still laid back. Families live their lives casually separated by a frontier with some relatives falling one side and the remainder living just across that bridge or that dip in the road.

Yet politics changes dramatically as soon as you cross that border. The lampposts adorned with A1 posters of Fine Gael or Fianna Fáil gombeen candidates suddenly discontinue and are replaced with posters of the SDLP candidate and eventually you'll find those of Unionist candidates a little further on. The one commonality is the ubiquitous Sinn Féin posters which are to be found in every county in Ireland. Whatever else we might say about them they do, at least, remain committed to bringing about national reunification and fighting elections across the island is one sign of that agenda.

The line of partition was inappropriately positioned due the failure of the then Free State to push the 1925 boundary commission
