It used to be that college was the right choice for anyone that could get in. However, with the continued escalation of those costs to astronomical highs, one has to wonder whether college always is the best choice. Parents now have to look ahead and wonder how they are going to pay for their children's education and it is worrisome for many.
Many students are of course dependent on loans to get them through as well has holding down jobs to try to pay off those loans. With the cost of college being more, sometimes way more, than $10,000 per year, many students face the prospect of graduating and being deep in debt. Financially, college is not the carefree fun time it once used to be for so many.
The question must be asked whether it is wise to have a generation of young college graduates being let out into the real world with a sizable burden of debt? At so young an age, it is difficult to be looking for your first real job knowing you need to get it just to tread water paying off your debts. Is it also wise to be starting out so young already burdened with debt you know may take years to repay?
A degree is not a guarantee of a job anymore and many college graduates end up never using their degree. There are many instances where people end up working in areas that have nothing to do with what they majored in at college and this also makes one wonder whether a college degree is really work the hefty price right now?
Students who haven't chosen paths that will lead to high paying jobs and don't have specific career goals may in fact be better off getting a job straight out of high school. This will allow them to earn and save money right from the start rather than go in debt. While it is true that a college degree is beneficial to have, if it costs more than you will ever get back and puts you heavily in debt, a good case can be made that many students might be better off seeking jobs rather than seeking admissions to college.
