There has been a plethora of reports of murder, blackmailing, torture and even divorces all stemming from the activity on the social network, Facebook. Sad to say the least and I really wont reminisce over all the reports earlier. At the same time I won’t single Facebook as being the only social network that is the source of all such trouble, the question is are these platforms so real in our real lives?

We all would have an obvious answer, no. Rightly said but I know people personally who value as much they value anything in their daily lives, and by taking it real I mean that they take it very seriously. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace is more of a reputation and not just a means of connection with friends, like minded or whatever you do online. These folks wont joke and would readily bite you if you do through a joke at them. Same goes for the jesters, while these two categories remain pretty harmless and can be interesting every now and then, there are more sinister folks who spy, follow and allure you into a trap. The worst part, you have no idea what is running in their heads or what they want to do, there is an absence of emotional expression, eye contact or even voice. What you have are just textual impressions of what the person might be or thinking about. Rest is up to you to decide, trust them, associate stories and make judgments or simply ignore. I guess not all are so much in control of their emotions.

This brings me to an earlier report

I recently was sent the link to the Sock Monkey and Critter Store on Facebook.  Created by the very talented Claire and Karen, are these very cute looking sock monkeys and crazy critters.

When you know that the social networks have given the users the perfect place to voice their opinion, you better steer clear of all trouble. Nestle is the current example and see how the people on the firm’s Facebook page have flooded it with complains. The page was till yesterday filled with fans praising their favorite product from the brand but a recent controversy regarding the use of palm oil turned the love into hate.

The issue is that the confectionary goods manufacturer is reportedly said to have been using palm oil from rainforests in Indonesia that aren’t managed. This is resulting in deforestation in the country, something which sparked off Greenpeace to become active. The response from Nestle itself in this connection has been very immature and appear to be very artificial. I just went across the page and it has failure written all over it. I bet Nestle would be cursing their attempt to go all social with this initiative, especially given the fact that they have absolutely no one to counter the comments and status updates left on the page. The very description appears so juvenile to say say the least:

Facebook  is up with a bit of experimentation as the social network rolls out QR codes as part of its location features. The idea is to use these codes in line with its mobile app or more importantly as means of checking in on stores and affiliate businesses. QR is for quick responses and lately had been in test across a few select profiles but I guess it will be coming for everyone along with the location feature it plans to launch next month at the Facebook f8 conference.

The QR is primarily a bar code we often see on devices these days and can be read by a camera in your mobile phone. If I am not wrong here it appears more of FourSquare and Gowalla coming together under Facebook. The winning aspect for Facebook however is that the social network has more than 400 Million users and that is something the mentioned two networks can never reach.

The ease? Well as already mentioned once integrated / applied the same would be used for checking in to participating stores / businesses. I guess many would resort to using them and really appreciate their application. I mean these QR codes carry a lot more data than the traditional bar codes and the same can applied to almost any media, be it photos, videos, etc. Lets see how long is it before we actually see these available for all.

Search engine want all the information from the social networking include to their real time search result. Facebook Fan Page is the way you communicate with your fan. You can keep in touch with your fan and you fan can get in touch with you.

Facebook Fan Page will affect your search engine rank. The more links the more you chance to get more visibility and exposure. Google said public update status will include on real time search. This become more interesting, a quote from Danny Sullivan at SearchEngineLand:

"This is also a good time for search marketers and marketers in general to think again about Facebook, if you haven't already. More and more Facebook content has been made visible to search engines over the years."  Sullivan then goes on to say "Google's move makes having Facebook fan pages even more essential. Without one, you're missing out on a chance to be found within yet another area, Google's real time results."

Now that Twitter and Facebook fan pages are included in Google search results, I thought I would share with you a few SEO tips to get more SEO push out of your twitter and facebook pages.

These tips apply to both twitter and facebook fan pages and they are simple to do.. and we all like simple..right?  lol

Your name should include one of your keywords, or at least fit your niche. Ex: if you sell dog toys, then choose a name that fits that.

You can also add a keyword to your display name too. I don’t do this because it makes it less personal, but if SEO juice is what you want then keyword your name too.

With you url in your profile, make sure to use your actual url not a shortened one.  Also remove the “www” since Google only takes your first 20 characters.

Your profile is a great place to put your keywords, but again don’t go over board since you want to personalize your profile as much as you can, and you only have 160 char. Keywords will help with search also on twitter makes it easier for people to search and find you.

This is cool, you can SEO your profile picture! You can’t can rename the photo before you upload it that way when it shows up in the URL it will have the keywords that you named. Make sure to leave NO spaces.
