Gizmodo revealed the first pictures of two '
Pink' phones which
Microsoft hasn't officially acknowledged yet. The leaked photos that emerged on Gizmodo on Wednesday, while genuine, paint just one part of the picture of how Microsoft hopes to get back into the phone game. Gizmodo published images of not one, but two phones developed under the "Pink" project, known as codenamed "
Turtle" and "
Pure", and notes that Microsoft's manufacturing partner is to be Sharp. Microsoft is hoping that these two new smart phones will help them challenge the iPhone.
The squircle-shaped phone above is apparently Turtle," and has a slide out keyboard. The other phone is a candybar slider called "Pure."
The Pink phones may have Zune-like software or at the very least will access the online Zune Marketplace for music, videos, and other content. The phones will be made by Sharp and Pink will be aimed at the same market that uses the Sidekick. One of the pictured devices (The Turtle) resembles the chubby, ovoid, Palm Pre while the Pure - which looks more like an HTC device - comes with a keyboard and a decent-looking screen. Both are very…round-ish, with soft angles. Obviously plastic.
No word on pricing yet or what any of the specs will be, but it sounds like these phones are getting close to production, and may hit store shelves in a few months.
