Obama and Healthcare: Rhetoric Or Reality?

Look What We Are Going To Do And It Won't Cost You A Dime?

Focus group tested, was it everything that you wanted to hear, or did you hear everything that the President thought you wanted?

Reaching out across the aisle?: If you are using scare tactics or spreading misinformation (plus about 8 other adjectives), we will call you out.

Just a few observations from the Obama speech:

Number one, Rep. Joe Wilson should not have said what he said in the forum that he said it. But he still should have said it. For those that did not see the speech, when President Obama said "The reforms I propose would not apply to illegal aliens", Representative Wilson shouted out "You lie". He could have extended that to the majority of politicians.

Why I Support Open Immigration

World AffairsPolitics & Opinions

There are five key reasons I support and open border policy in America (or any free nation). This subject is one of the primary areas of disagreement I find myself in when talking to many other constitutionalists, conservatives, and conservative-turned-libertarians out there. I have always been confused by what seems to be an inconsistent position when compared to their other reasoning. This, as with most of my blog posts, is an attempt to present my reasoning to these and others to not only let them see as clearly as possible my own perspective, but to hopefully elicit a response from them that may either show the weaknesses of my reasoning or enlighten me by showing errors I have made in reasoning or fact or perhaps even guide me in strengthening my own position. I always have a little apprehension when posting something like this, as so many people whose opinions I respect and admire disagree with me on this subject. Perhaps I am just missing something, we shall see. So, without further digression into my emotional state, I will lay out my thinking.

Reason 1) Philosophical Honesty and Consistency:

Open Borders Advocates Get Warning from Al Qaeda

World AffairsPolitics & Opinions

If you are an open borders advocate, consider yourself warned. Al Qaeda has released a chilling tape that has now been authenticated by US intelligence officials threatening to smuggle anthrax across the US border. Specifically, they are talking about one person bringing four pounds of anthrax across the border in a suit case. And they say they will work with American white supremacist organizations to launch a coordinated attack. The goal of the attaché would be to kill more than 300,000 Americans.

Kidnapped Boy’s Mother Reportedly an Illegal Alien

World AffairsPolitics & Opinions

Two weeks ago, armed gunmen broke into the house of three year old Briant Rodriguez in San Bernardino, CA. He was forcibly taken from his mother who was told that the boy was going to be taken to Mexico where he would be killed. These events triggered an Amber Alert and sent local police, FBI agents and police in Mexico on a chase to find young Briant. For two weeks there was no word on him. Then, this past weekend he was found wondering the streets in Mexicali in Baja Mexico by a Mexican police officer. That officer brought the boy to children’s authorities who discovered who he was. Case solved! Well not so fast. It turns out that Briant’s Mother may have been breaking US law by being here in the first place. And better yet, the FBI assisted her in remaining in the country.

Bryant’s mother, Maria Rosalina Millan was escorted to the border to collect her son. She was escorted to the town of Calexico, a California town on the border directly across from Mexicali, by FBI agents. Upon arrival there, Millan refused to cross the border. But the FBI was more than happy to cross.

Some news reports in the US said that Millan had been unable to cross due to a paperwork snafu.  One run by ABC did refer to immigration issues. But none of the reports that I have seen said anything about Millan being an illegal alien. That is until Gillian Flaccus, a reporter for the Associated Press, filed a story

Courts and Sanctuary Cities Sit Idly By As Illegal Aliens Kill Americans

World AffairsPolitics & Opinions

Tessa Tranchant was 16 years old when she was struck and killed by a drunk illegal alien who had been arrested twice already but never deported. Denver police officer Don Young was executed by an illegal alien who had been arrested and released on three prior occasions. In Los Angeles, a promising student athlete named Jamil Shaw was killed by an illegal alien who had been arrested previously and then released instead of being deported. And the list goes on an on.

Unfortunately, neither the US Government nor the states track illegal alien crime against Americans. The only way to get a flavor for how bad the situation has become is by doing research on your own. If you attempt this, you may find that you have to dig however. That’s because the mainstream press often leaves out information regarding the immigration status of criminals in the stories they write.

Sadly, every one of the people mentioned above would still be alive if the government would enforce immigration laws. Courts routinely fail to check the immigration status of people who come before them. And sanctuary cities don’t ask the immigration status of even those they arrest. Los Angeles is a classic example of this. LA police have been ordered not to ask for immigration status from anyone.

Obama Wants Comprehensive Immigration Reform In a Down Economy

World AffairsPolitics & Opinions

April 9, 2009 – The White House came out today saying that the United States needs comprehensive immigration reform. Soon thereafter, the pundits hit the airwaves saying that these “wonderful people” need to be made legal so that they can work and become productive members of society. As a conservative looking at unemployment rates hovering at around 10%, all I can say is that I truly hope the President does go down this path, but not because I think he will succeed.

For each of the past several months we’ve seen new unemployment claims filed in excess of 500,000. Millions of Americans have lost their jobs in this recession. So of course, the Democrats have decided that this is the best possible time for them to push for immigration reform. We obviously need millions of more people competing for the limited number of jobs available. And of course, by legalizing them now, we can make an entirely new group of people eligible for government entitlement programs that we can so easily afford after spending Trillions of dollars on bank  bailouts and congressional pork!

Senate Majority Leader, Harry Reid (D-NV) has said that he wants to see an immigration reform bill ready for a Senate vote before the end of this year. And certainly Nancy Pelosi will not want to be left behind on this topic. After all, it was just last month that she told a crowd of illegal aliens that our immigration enforcement efforts were “un-American”.

DREAM Act Could Become Nightmare For US Taxpayers And Students

World AffairsPolitics & Opinions

April 8, 2009 – Just imagine that you are a citizen in a third world country and you have a child that is 15 years old. That child has limited opportunities in your own country. Now imagine that right next door there is a large, industrialized nation that will allow illegal aliens to attend college, get in-state tuition and get on a path to citizenship. The only proviso is that to qualify for this program, children need to enter that large, industrialized country before their 16th birthday. What are you going to do?

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, or DREAM Act, is now being considered by the Senate. The House is considering a similar bill that they are calling the American DREAM Act. Unfortunately, Americans are excluded from the benefits of these bills but they will be expected to foot the tax bill and incur some other penalties.

Essentially, these bills would give the states permission to allow illegal aliens who are entered the US before their 16th birthday to attend college. More importantly, it would allow the states to offer in-state tuition rates to these illegals; something that they can’t do under current federal law unless they offer in-state tuition to all Americans.

During the time that these illegal aliens are receiving their education, they would be given temporary legal status and put on a six year road to citizenship.
