Before you start see the example images above of actual Twitter profiles to see what I’m typing about, One belongs to iJustine (really like her design, so I picked it) and the other one’s mine.
Want to create a personalized background for your twitter page too?
Check out my tutorial below hope this will help.

Hi guys! I just finished uploading my new Twitter background that I designed using Photoshop CS3, you can view it here.
For those who want to change or customize their background and change it into a actual profile page with more information like I did, but wondering how. You could use a site like TweetSpace.com where they’ll do all that totally free for you or design it your self with photoshop which makes it more fun and you can add colors, pictures and anything you want and make it look like how you wanted it.
So this tutorial is for those who want to create a twitter background using photoshop.
Lets start…….

Please Note: Click on the images to enlarge them if its not clear.

1. First create a new document
Width 1800px and Height 1000px
Resolution 72
3

2. Add a background color

2.1. Create a new layer on top of your background
Pick the ‘Rectangular tool’
Choose a different color
Draw at about 199 px wide. See the example below
42

3. Next add an image you want to display and position it as shown on the example.
5

4. Type in your information, such as your name, email, msn, quotes.
6

5. Add a title to your profile page. To do this view the image below, its very important to not to let the twitter logo or you twitter updates get in your way. so start typing you title at sharp 4.1 inches on your photoshop ruler. check the example.
7

That’s it! Your done. You can add anything you want like more graphics or text in the background.
You can also change the font colors of your profile to match the new background….

Now all you have to do is upload what you have created…….
to do that log onto your twitter account
Click on settings
Click on ‘Design’ Tab
Scroll down and click on ‘Change background image’
Click on the ‘browse’ button upload the background you created.
NOTE: Do not check on the ‘title background’ check box below browse button.
Remove the check it if it’s already checked

GOOD WORK!! Question: is 1800 by 1000 minimum resolution? (I understand that monitors with smaller resolution will see more of what's shown on the left of the twitter background.)

It's a great post!
Going with the built in offerings usually reflects poorly on users :(
So great job in making it easy!
