The side of niche online marketing I like the most is the brainstorming marketing research part. At first, when I'm searching for a niche to craft my marketing strategy on, I just sit down and write everything that comes to my mind, without thinking too much about it. I write down ideas about my passions, my relatives' passions and everything that comes connected with them.
Then, I go for the search engine market analysis step, looking for the research, profitability and competitive data for each one of these niche markets ideas. These features allow me to choose among all of them the ones that could make my work profitable. And here comes the point.
There are two different ways to sort these data and make a choice.
The Strong way
You could choose the high competition and high number of searches ideas, assumed that there are already existing products that are sold on the market, because this means that there's money in the market. On the other side, in order to make a decent amount of income in these niches, you need to be really good at you job and invest a lot of money in advertising. Obviously, given the high competition, the risks are really high too.
The low way
You could go for the niches with a decent amount of searches and a medium level of competition, in order to be sure to get on the first page of google with not so much effort. This way, you won't invest too much money and your risks will be low too. Obviously, your opportunity of income won't be stratospheric as on the first option.
Actually, I recently interviewed Ion Andrei, an online marketing expert, who opened my eyes on a different kind of strategy that is really worth of attention. It's a kind of micro way of doing niche marketing. And here it is.
The micro way
What if you were targeting keywords with only a couple of searches per month? If you can identify such a micro niche and craft your own info-product around it, you will have almost no competition at all (maybe nothing at all) and your chances of success will be higher, since the few visitors you'll get will be highly targeted and your conversions will be next to 100%.
Obviously, your income will be limited accordingly to the number of searches, but you can overcome this by working on more than one of these king of mini-micro-niches and multiply your revenues accordingly to the number and the exclusivity of your offers.
I know online marketers with a strong experience won't be interested in this kind of approach, but if you're just starting and moving your first steps in this world, this idea could save you time and money and help you getting stronger in a safe way.
If you want more advice about these subjects, I invite you to visit my blog and listen to the whole online marketing interview with Ion, which will make this side of online marketing clear to you.
