Fare Hikes Predicted

The Drum Major Institute for Public Policy predicts that due to its large deficits, the MTA will likely be forced to once again raise fares while providing reduced service in 2011. The fare increase is estimated to be $.35, bringing the cost to $2.60 for a single ride, while the monthly unrestricted ride MetroCard would be over $100. This fare hike could end up costing a family of four more $2,000 a year above the current level. For those living pay checkĀ  to paycheck, this increase could be the straw that breaks the camels back.

Helplessness and Hopelessness

It is definitely a stretch to take the potential increase in fares and tie it to a potential increase in the threat to the security of the people of New York. On the other hand, some of what will drive an individual into a radical lifestyle, is the fact that there is no other hope in their lives now, or projecting into the future. Charismatic leaders use this to offer those in distress another way.

Obama cracks down on overseas tax loopholes
President’s two-part plan calls for hundreds of new federal tax agents

Okay first let me translate the title from “newspeak” to English: “Obama finds new way to rob Peter (aka taxpayers) to pay Paul (aka the huge federal deficit he helped create).

Don’t misunderstand me, if there are businesses that aren’t paying their fair share by all means spank their asses. What seems to be lost in this crusade against capitalism is the lack of responsibility on behalf of the government. Read on and I will elaborate on the topic of taxation and reckless spending.

The Taxman Bumeth

The following is true, only the facts have been changed...

Just like every Saturday for the past two months, I planned to do income taxes. The bad news is, we didn't yet again. The good news is, we had a fight anyway!

See, besides it being tax time, in Phoenix it's also the lemon harvest, and we had three lizard buckets full awaiting squeezing.

We'd gotten up early that day, and by late afternoon, my lovely and sleepy wife wanted to take a nap. I knew what that meant - she wouldn't awake until well into Lawrence Welk, and I'd have to sing by myself.

Then there's dinner, so we wouldn't start on the taxes until late that evening.

What I didn't count on was what she did when she awoke. She dragged herself into the kitchen all right, but after a while, I noticed there was nothin' cookin'.

Paying Taxes without Taxation - A Radical Approach

World AffairsPolitics & Opinions

March 27, 2009 – Every year, consumers and businesses alike spend billions of dollars on tax preparation. They spend even more money, involving attorneys and accountants, to dispute the IRS. The result of this song and dance is that April 15th has become a day dread for many. A day that can cause even the soberest of tea-totalers to consider reforming their ways and drinking heavily. What if we could do away with this system and replace it with a system that was automatic, non-intrusive, and required virtually no outside assistance? Maybe there is.

The US dollar is worth something because the US government says that it is. That’s all. It is not backed by gold or any other precious commodity. It is simply paper that has purchasing power because… well, just because we THINK it’s worth something. But every year, people go to jail for not paying their taxes. They lose their homes, bank accounts and families for trying to hide their actual income.

The current US tax system is prone to error. The tax code is so long and so complex that even tax attorneys have trouble with it. It’s nearly impossible for anyone without professional training to have a reasonable chance of getting their taxes done the right way.

As for individual income tax filers, fully 41% pay no taxes.

According to the Tax Foundation, in 2008 individuals in the United States earned a combined $8 Trillion

IRS gets "tough" with bailout companies

Try not paying your income taxes. See how long it takes before the IRS is breathing down your neck. Have you ever been audited? I hear it is an orgasmically pleasant experience.

For you and me, failing to pay our taxes can be a very “costly” decision. How many folks have you heard of that get an “all expenses paid vacation” to a dark and dank state resort, or uh, corrections facility? Just mess with the IRS, and you will quickly learn that there’s no hidin’ from Uncle Sam. Now, that applies to everyone, right? I mean, it doesn’t matter if you’re John Doe or Willie Nelson, there ain’t no escapin’ the long arms of the IRS...or is there?

I’m sure you’ve been paying close attention to all of the ridiculous “bailouts” being instituted by our trusty government. “Oh, but confuciusness, you’re just a ‘right-wing’ hack!’” Uh, NO! I do believe that the bailout am-Bush began in 2008. Yeah, that’s right, G-Dub is just as responsible as Obama. Why is everything always filtered down to right versus left...I mean, right is right, right?...or right is wrong...wait, left is right...no, left is wrong?!?!?!? Uh, “I think we made a wrong

A Letter to the IRS

World AffairsPolitics & Opinions

If you think that people are not fed up with the way that Washington is being run, think again. I don't believe that the following letter was actually sent to the IRS, but someone took the time to write it and it certainly expresses the thoughts of many of the people that I talk to. I don't know who the author of the letter was, but it is worth the read.

Dear IRS,

I am sorry to inform you that I will not be able to pay taxes owed April 15, but all is not lost.
