Why I Will Not Support Newt Gingrich

The ex Speaker of the House exposed his hypocrisy in  an article at Human Events.  I thank  my friend theway2k for posting a link to the Gingrich screed in
Who is at War with America?

On Terrorism it's Time to Know, to Profile, and to Discriminate  by  Newt Gingrich 12/30/2009

We know our opponents are radical extremists of the irreconcilable wing of Islam (Islamists, some would call them).

We know they have an ideology which is anti-female, desires to impose fundamentalist Sharia as a form of law, is hostile to other religions and is prepared to kill the innocent to achieve their goals.
Like G.W. Bush, John McCain, Hillary Clinton & Barack Obama, Newt knows

Top Five RL Posts of the “Decade” Plus One More Dick Slap

World AffairsPolitics & Opinions

I'm stealing an idea from political blogger Sensico today and I'm going to review the top 5 of my blog posts for the "decade" just ending. I place "decade" in quotes because I've only been blogging since September of 2007. Still, here you are, the posts that have received the most "hits" since I started.

1. Obama, Racism and Inevitable Self-examination September 18, 2009: For someone who planned to write about racism very seldom, I wound up returning to the issue several times over the past year. What prompted this post was the Glenn Beck inspired September 12 Tea Party protest and specifically some of the blatantly violent and racist signs on display at that protest. I got a couple of things wrong here. First I used Jimmy Carter as a righteous source of outrage without doing sufficient research to determine that Carter's own political career was not racially spotless. Second, I think (and I hope) that the main stream media and I both got it wrong regarding the real threat of these people. Ultimately, I think these folks are angry folks letting off steam. Every angry crowd attracts nutjobs and it is very easy to focus on them to the exclusion of the harmless. Some folks in the tea party movement have valid concerns and others are sixth grade dropouts eager to be seen on TV. Either way, I think rumors of the country's imminent civil war were greatly exaggerated.

Here's To The Losers

In a CBS interview with Katie Couric which airs tonight, Glenn Beck has said, "I think John McCain would have been worse for the country than Barack Obama."

When asked about Hillary Clinton, Beck said, "I can't believe I'm saying this...I think I would have much preferred Hillary Clinton as president and may have voted for her against John McCain."

Beck is very open about the fact that he did not vote in the last election.

This interview and Beck's statements have become fast controversy and are all over the internet. In one article I read from The Huffington Post, there were already 71 pages of comments. However, there was one comment in particular from user Sadie1976 that got me thinking:
I've heard several conservatives make this remark, that they "might have" voted for Hillary! (Operative word being "might"!) They must think this makes them sound "cool" or "open minded"! I'd like to hear details about that thought process! Hillary is pro-health care, pro-choice...all the ideals that make the president a "demon" in their eyes, Hillary pretty much stand for also! I don't buy it for a minute!

Love her or hate her, Sarah Palin is the gift that keeps on giving

Maybe you love Governor Palin or you hate her – or you love to hate her – but no regardless of what you think, she’s not going away anytime soon.  Whether she is picking a fight with late night talk show hosts or being passed over at a GOP funder, Mrs. Palin keeps making headlines.  This week’s issue started with a ‘tell all’ piece in Vanity Fair in which the McCain staff who dealt with her complain that she was just ‘not all they expected.’  Well, duh.  I could have told you that – that’s the reason most campaigns employ a strict vetting process for similar picks.  Really, how long did you spend with her before you pushed her in front of the train that is the US political media?

Full disclosure alert:  I am a liberal Democrat who enjoys watching discord within the Republican Party.  I cannot get enough of it.  It’s a guilty pleasure right up there with Flipping Out or Wife Swap.  I feel almost guilty for watching but I cannot look away.  Plus coming from the days of “Democrats fall in love; Republicans fall in line” it’s a nice change to see them out of power and in meltdown mode.

Having said that, Governor Palin has some qualities that cut both ways.

1.        Fearlessness:

ABBA? Really?!

Back in August last year I posted that US Presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain had each revealed their ten favourite songs. The list stil makes for interesting reading and provided some insight.

Though there are a few gems picked by both the cynic in me is sure the lists were revised a hundred times by million dollar PR teams before either went public. Enjoy.
