Educational Value Of YouTube

YouTube is probably one of the most popular video sites on the Internet today. Over the years, this site has had it's share of controversy, and the amount of questionable material uploaded makes you wonder if there are any morals left in the world. However, there is a lot more to YouTube than meets the eye. If used properly, YouTube can be a very educational tool.

As a lover of ancient history, I was excited to find that there are several historic documentaries throughout the site. There was a little something from just about every time period in history, including ancient Sumerian and Mayan cultures, to histories of the Presidents of the United States. If you have an interest in history, you'll find something to peak your interest on this site.

That's when I began to wonder what else I could come up with at YouTube, and the results were amazing. I thought of all the things I've ever wanted to learn how to do, and found out that there was a video for just about everything I could imagine. I typed in the words How-To just to see what I could come up with, and the list seemed endless. You can learn to play the guitar, how to train a dog, even how to make money online.

Being an amateur webmaster, I next decided to see if there was anything that could help me in this area. I found a ton of videos on how to build websites, videos on basic HTML and CSS coding, and even how to use tools such as Photoshop and Dreamweaver. If you've never built a website before, or if you want ideas on how to expand on your web design knowledge, it's all here.

Finally, I thought about some of the things my kids are learning in school, and the things they're having problems with. I was never very good at math, so I started there. YouTube has videos on everything from how to work basic math problems, to how to master Algebra. Want to learn a foreign language? There are tons of videos on getting started with languages such as French and Russian.

There are thousands of videos on YouTube, but not all of them are useless. Next time you are looking for information, check out YouTube. Whatever it is that you want to learn, you can almost bet that someone has posted a video tutorial on the subject.

Hi Sapheyerblu, I've come across a few Youtube users who do nothing but give very negative non-constructive comments with gross dis-respect for our mums. Yes, something needs to be done as well to better sieve out the better videos that educate the public who may be minors. And perhaps ban those who abuse other YT members.

Oh - don't stop learning about videos for online content! YOU WILL ENJOY IT! I know I have and I am still learning!

Keep rocking my blogger friend!

The thing is that it seems as if we need some regulation over the video that design to educate, and go figure and find this authority that will get legitimacy from the public to start managing the files on Youtube...

Yes, you are so right. Weeding through the thousands of videos to find the gems is a bit hard, but it is possible. Thanks Hagrid

The main notion you raise here is right on, the problem is to find the better content between all those thousands of videos.
