Everyone Is A Twitter!

framebyframe_twitter

I'm one of those early adopter type people. I guess it's because I like to play around with new things, especially when it comes to Internet technology. Of course some of the new gadgets and programs I try do nothing more than fill up my hard drive with unwanted programs. But, from time to time I find some pretty amazing programs and hangouts.

Twitter falls into the category of cool programs!

Actually, to be Internet correct, I should refer to Twitter as a social network. Social networking has come a long way since the days of MySpace. I do have a MySpace site, but I don't use it a whole lot. I also have a Facebook account, a FriendFeed and a Ping account to update all the other social networks I'm on. As for picture social networks, I have Flickr, Webshots and Picasa web accounts too!

So you see, I'm not really a rookie at this social networking stuff. Twitter seems to be the big social networking site out there right now. Of course Facebook is making changes trying to catch up, but only time will tell to see how that goes.

As for movie stars on Twitter, there are tons!

But, which stars are worth following....

Popular Stars On Twitter

If you're just looking for shear star-power, topping the list of Twitter-stars are names such as Britney Spears, Ashton Kutcher and The Real Shaq. I wonder what Ashton's wife, Demi Moore thinks of the fact that hubby has more followers than her. But the question remains, just because the likes of Britney, Ashton and Shaq have the most followers, does this mean they're worth following? That all depends on what you're looking for.

If you just want to peer into the lives of the stars with little to no interaction, then follow away. But, I thought the idea of social networking was to be social. If that's the case, Britney, Ashton, Shaq and Demi fall way short of being social. If anything, Britney's stream is a PR stunt, Ashton uses his stream as a place for his immature rantings. Shaq's attempts at social are nothing more than one word tweets and Demi spends more time playing paparazzi than anything else.

Could it be Twitter is nothing more...
than a new form of voyeurism?

If you're on Twitter, and you want a list of all the celebrities Tweeting, you can find a directory on the new site WeFollow Twitter directory.

Stars Worth Following

Now you know the stars with the most followers. But, as already mentioned, just because they have lots of followers, does not necessarily make them good people to follow. With that in mind, some may wonder if any of the stars are worth following on Twitter. Through the past few months I've spent time following and un-following many with so-called star-power.

Rising to the top of my list as worthy stars to follow;

  • Wil Wheaton - He's actually doing something with his life, has a great blog, and posts some great pictures on Flickr from time to time too. But, making things even better - Wil actually interacts with his followers. I have had a couple great Tweet conversations with him. Does he respond all the time? No, but he does read his @replies and does interact occasionally. I'm not looking to be best friends with Wil Wheaton, but I do appreciate an occasional personal tweet from time to time. He's also very open about what to expect from him if you choose to hit the follow button! Check out Wil's Quick Guide To Following Me On Twitter. This is well worth the read.
  • Brent Spiner - While he's somewhat new to the world of Twitter, Brent is worth the follow too. He interacts with his followers some. While he's not interacted with me yet, that's okay. But then again, I haven't really sent him many messages yet either. Brent doesn't just tweet PR stuff. He's interesting and funny!
  • Levar Burton - Yes, this is the real Levar Burton too. Initially someone hijacked his name. But, through a little bit of work with the Twitter people, Levar is now on Twitter, as himself. I've interacted a little bit with Levar, and again, it's nice to have a star actually interact. It was also great to encourage Levar as he worked to quit smoking. His daily updates of the quitting cylce helped people to encourage him toward health.

By looking at my list of fav stars to follow, it's not too hard to tell I'm also a Star Trek fan. But, before anyone points out to me that I'm not following William Shatner, I want to point out, I am following him. However, he does not make my list here because not only does he not interact with his followers, he doesn't tweet much either.

If you're looking to follow a star on Twitter it's probably best to keep in mind it shouldn't be a love-fest type of thing. Follow their streams, interact with them. They're real people.

As Wil Wheaton says on his Twitter bio line
"I'm just this guy, you know?"

Hidden Twitter Treasures

framebyframe_treasure_chest

Along the way you will also find some wonderful hidden treasures on Twitter. Over time I've gathered a list of my own of people involved in the entertainment industry, who actually do take time to correspond and interact with their followers.

Making the short list for me;

And my fav entertainment industry follower, and followie...

Of course on my Twitter stream I do have more people I interact with on a daily basis. But, to list them all here would make for a rather long list. So the easiest way to find out the people I think are important on Twitter is to Follow me on Twitter!

Hope to be social with you real soon!

Loved this! I just wish there was a way to know who is the real celebrity. And here's a twitter question for you- If I'm following you but you're not following me, do you see my comment if I @ you or am I just talking to myself.

VERY GOOD ARTICLE DrRUS!

Someone said this before,"Anyone who is on twitter is a someone." Not sure if this is a marketing gimmick to oust Facebook and MySpace membership rates but all of a sudden after reading that, I feel good abt being on Twitter! :)

I am following a few stars because Demi Moore is a vegetarian (like me). (I heard some of the celebrities you find on Twitter are actually run by PR agencies.)

I am also following a few rock musicians to learn more abt the music I don't normally listen to and see if I can appreciate their music.

Overall, Twitter is a good place to chat and get to know!

P.S. Who are your Twitter stars?
