Quiet after the storm: When anxiety lets go

LifestyleHealth, Sports & Fitness

Volatile. Fickle. Explosive. I would describe myself using either one of those words during the hours of intense anxiety I suffer now and then. Thank goodness the episodes have become much less frequent (thank God for anti-depressants) but I still manage to frighten myself a bit when I reach the point of utter terror and feel like I can no longer control my own mind. Anxiety is an old “friend” I play hide and seek with; I try to keep it at bay with being social online, keeping my mind occupied so the door remains closed – the door that allows anxiety to creep in and change me into an altogether different person.

Last night anxiety got the better of me and I entered into a place where I get truly scared. Kurt tried to calm me and as good as he is at that task after years of practice, he didn’t succeed last night. I just kept getting worse until I finally got so exhausted, I passed out from it. It sounds truly horrible and make no mistake, there’s nothing as frightening as feeling out of control when it comes to your own mind ; I especially hate the numbness of the hands. It’s like my body takes over and I am just in there

Changing the World by Treating Anxiety

LifestyleHealth, Sports & Fitness

I have always been a strong advocate for social change and improving the lives of others through service to the community. It is my sincere belief that if everyone applied themselves and decided to work on whatever difficulties are holding them back in life, while simultaneously keeping an eye on working for the greater good, that in fact the world could become a much better place. In fact, speaking globally, it is entirely possible to end war, poverty, and provide for everyone’s needs with some leftovers for entertainment. However, the real trick is convincing people that is in fact possible, and that is precisely what I am going to do for you today in this article.

However, rather than making the issue very complicated and trying to address all the different personal struggles that hold people back in life, I will simply speak from the perspective of those suffering from social anxiety disorder.

The first point to raise in regard to social anxiety disorder, is that we, and especially those who are suffering intensely, spend excessive amounts of time engaging in pointless activity that does no one any good. I know this because when my social anxiety was at a high, that is precisely one of the ways I coped with it (see My Social Anxiety has Reduced – What is Next?

Howard Dean Draws a Line in the Sand. Sign the Healthcare Petition!

My views are usually moderate. Except when it comes to healthcare. The time is now to finally let our elected officials know that too many people can't afford and /or cut the red tape when it comes to affordable care. This came in my email . If you believe that the healthcare system needs change, howard

SIGN THE PETITION...

Here's Howard Dean's Letter.

I have an announcement. After four exciting years in Washington, I'm hitting the campaign trail again! Only this time, I'm campaigning to help President Obama win health care for all.

During the election, President Obama proposed a health care plan that would give every American the freedom to choose between keeping their private insurance—if they have any—and choosing a universally available public health insurance option like Medicare.

But for-profit insurance companies and HMOs are already working hard to strip this public health insurance option from any upcoming health care bill. They don't want us to have a choice, and they'll stop at nothing to kill real reform. Trouble is, some in Congress are siding with the insurance companies—and against what's best for the rest of us.

Today, we draw a line in the sand. A public health insurance option is the only way to guarantee health care for all Americans. And to show that we mean business, we all need to tell Congress we won't settle for less.

Warning:  Many Health Links at the End!!!   lol    Our Greens are accused of Being Useless in Disease Prevention or Treatment!     This is your Plant Advocate speaking and today I am going to defend my client, Mr. Green aka our natural and generally-friendly untainted vegetables/herbs of a neighbour.  lol

If you came here looking for HOPE for your leafy green garden, please visit Aaron's site here.

Those behind conventional medicine had always said that neither Nutrition Therapy (food) nor your mental health has anything to do with your physical health.  However,
the most recent research has yet again proved people in grief (bereavement) has 300% more likelihood of getting Cancer, tying emotional and mental health closely with how well the human body fights Cancer.

Now...we can all expect "happy hormone drugs" to be the next Cancer Drug!  lol

Mental Environmentalism

CounselingSelf Management

I ran across this concept on adbusters and I think it's about time this issue was considered.  Our "mental environment" is anything that works its way into our minds during the course of any given day.

Unfortunately, much of this is what corporations of various stripes would like us to see and think about (and to ultimately, buy).  The "message" we are getting with increasing frequency is that we are not good enough unless we purchase and consume whatever product happens to be out there. Products that used to be designed to last for decades are now obsolete either physically or technologically, in years or even months.  We are conditioned to want (and think we "need") increasing amounts of stuff, and then left to wonder how our homes, our minds and our lives have become so cluttered.

Isolation is Hell

I heard a sermon on the radio the other day while driving to work. The priest told a story of an exorcist who was performing an exorcism on a 19 year old girl. The exorcist asked the evil spirit  possessing her, what relationship two people would have in hell if they were enemies while alive.

The demonic spirit replied, "How stupid you are! There are no relationships here!  People are completely wrapped up in themselves, constantly regretting and mourning the sins they have committed. It is like a cemetery."

Is Congress Trying to Push Weak “Half-Measures” in Health Care Reform?

CounselingSelf Management

I know so many people who think they can do it alone090531_healthcare_ap_297

They isolate their heads and stay in their safety zones

Now what can you tell them

And what can you say that won't make them defensive?

"I Know There's an Answer" – The Beach Boys

Health care reform is in trouble in the Senate.

Conservatives in Congress, including some Democrats, are trying to kill Obama's public health insurance option not by opposing it outright, but by pushing weak half-measures and calling them "public plans."1 The latest is a proposal for small, regional "co-ops" that would have no chance of competing against insurance companies to bring costs down.2
