Media pundits predict that release of the Shalit video will increase
pressure on the Netanyahu Government to gain his release at literally any
price.
But the opposite could very well turn out to be the case.
Shalit appeared to be in good shape. And this after Israel's Operation Cast
Lead engaged in the masssive bombing and destruction of Palestinian targets
that could have readily been housing him if, indeed, Hamas intended to use
him as a shield against Israeli strikes.
The knowledge that Shalit is in good shape means that Israeli decision
makers can put emotions on the back burner and give Israel's national
interests the priority that they should rightfully have.
