I'm actually happy to say that I don't think this is over. Even if it gets through the reconciliation process, major parts of the bill don't kick in for four years. That means the next four years, businesses and individuals will be paying taxes for a program that is doing nothing, nada, zilch. It will constrain job growth in a time of economic crisis. It also means that people may be good and mad by the time Obama faces reelection. That combination could lead to an ouster of the Dems from both houses of Congress and the White House in 2012; two full years before implementation of Obamacare. That may be the chance to repeal this monstrosity. I do have to say that I agree with you completely on elected officials ignoring the will of voters. It is time to form a new Continental Congress. If the government feels free to ignore voters, then voters should feel free to ignore the government. By ignoring voters, the Congress and the White House are making themselves and illegitimate government.

Thanks for a fine article. The "political class" seems disconnected from the people most of the time. I hope the 2010 and 2012 elections will help remedy the situation.
