I nearly got a cramp because I was laughing so hard at the Irony of this article. The pure unmitigated gall and ego of President Obama amazes me. That he actually came out, with a serious face and gave this statement... well see for yourself.

I bold-typed the truly laughable lines for your amusement.

WASHINGTON – Invoking his own name-and-shame policy, President Barack Obama warned the nation's mayors on Friday that he will "call them out" if they waste the money from his massive economic stimulus plan.

"The American people are watching," Obama told a gathering of mayors at the White House. "They need this plan to work. They expect to see the money that they've earned — they've worked so hard to earn — spent in its intended purposes without waste, without inefficiency, without fraud."

In the days since the White House and Congress came to terms on the $787 billion economic package, the political focus has shifted to how it will work. Obama has staked his reputation not just on the promise of 3.5 million jobs saved or created, but also on a pledge to let the public see where the money goes.

His budget chief this week released a 25,000-word document that details exactly how Cabinet and executive agencies, states and local organizations must report spending. It is a system meant to streamline reports so they can be displayed on the administration's new Web site, Recovery.gov.

Using his presidential pulpit, Obama demanded accountability, from his friends in local government as well as his own agencies. He said the new legislation gives him tools to "watch the taxpayers' money with more rigor and transparency than ever," and that he will use them.

"If a federal agency proposes a project that will waste that money, I will not hesitate to call them out on it, and put a stop to it," he said. "I want everyone here to be on notice that if a local government does the same, I will call them out on it, and use the full power of my office and our administration to stop it."

Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, who leads the U.S. Conference of Mayors, said he welcomed Obama's warning.

"Absolutely. We get called out every day at the local level," Diaz said, drawing laughs from other mayors in a gathering with reporters on the White House driveway. "We have plenty of constituents who will be doing that before the president does."

Mayors of both parties said they appreciated the invitation to meet with Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and a handful of Cabinet secretaries. They cautioned, though, that the stimulus plan will only work if leaders at the state level direct the money to their cities in a clear, timely way.

The economic plan will inject a sudden boost of cash into transportation, education, energy and health care. Beyond new spending, it aims to aid people through a package of tax cuts, extended unemployment benefits and short-term health insurance help. The cost will be added to a growing budget deficit.

Obama said government leaders have asked for the "unprecedented trust of the American people."

"With that comes unprecedented obligations to spend that money wisely, free from politics and free from personal agendas," he said.

The president did not specify how, exactly, he would call out one of his own agencies or a local government about wasteful projects.

I love the fact that while there is still no plan to hold anyone accountable before the money is distributed, no effort in place to set any system of checks and balances on our taxpayer money that has been given away and spent by this administration ... but fear not ... the FBI is stepping up its efforts to discover any instances of fraud.

If the 90K of marked FBI money in Willie J's freezer was not enough for the FBI to get a conviction (how many years later) I have little hope that this will do anything to curtail the abuses when literally trillions of our dollars are being given away with absolutely no accountability.

If I am an American I woulda voted fro Dr. Ron Paul! He has true concerns for Americans' health and most good doctors and dieticians, chiropractors, homeopathics, etc are on his side.

Perhaps the majority of Americans have been blinded by Obama's smiles and fashion style!

Harmony, I must admit, I came to BloggerBase to try to make a little cash. Well, I now see that people that disagree will just give a s***ty rating to you, or me for that matter.

I care less about the chump-change now, and I feel we (Constitutional constructionists) need to look out for each other.

Mostly, the posts with realistic content are from us CC's: you, me, Chad...and others. I mean really, to argue that our economy will be stimulated by throwing a new coat of "over-priced" paint on Abe Lincoln's crotch is asinine. I want my money. I don't want to "feel proud" that our museums are "neato," or that a liberal fat-cat bureaucrat is driving a new "Prius" and smelling his own farts (South Park: "Smug Alert" episode).

Dammit! I have bills to pay and guns to buy for when the "feel-good" liberals disarm the law-abiding citizens.

So, I vow to give you a thumbs-up for every comment you make, at least as long as you stay away from the kool-aid.

WONDERTWIN POWERS ACTIVATE!!! (of course, others are welcome to join as well).

Thanks Harmony, I admire you for finishing college with your ability to "think" still intact. If you need help, I'm there!

I am sorry, Harmony, I could not disagree more with your post. Obama is showing real courage in facing the future with eyes wide open, but his logical and pragmatic approach is just getting him tarred as Spendy McPorkbarrel. As such, he can't win.

"Fiscal stimulus, including both tax cuts and government spending, can help. It's reasonable to debate the best mix of tax cuts and spending, but it makes no sense to pretend that spending has no role to play.

Even with substantial tax reductions and spending increases, it will take time to repair the damage that was done to the economy in the last few years. But those who want to do nothing but sit back and criticize are engaging in the kind of thinking that made the last Depression Great."*

Harmony, I am your "melody." I totally agree with you, I mean. Why are some people so blind to the irony, better yet, "hypocrisy" of this guy. Ideology aside, how can anyone not see that this Chicago "goodfella" is full of sssstuff!

Harmony,
I have to say, I am right there with you.
$6.2 billion for home weatherization
$75 million for "smoking cessation activities
$87 million for the "design of a new polar icebreaker
$100 million for children to learn green construction
$335 million for HIV/STD screening
$600 million to buy hybrid vehicles for federal employees

...and one of my personal favorites:
$150 million for the Smithsonian Institute

A few of the more outrageous ones I listed in one of my posts. And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Great One's idea of efficiency and less waste..."spending the money wisely, free from politics and free from personal agendas." That's too funny. Apparently, his idea of waste, fraud, politics, and personal agendas, differs quite a bit from my own.

Thanks for bringing this out in the open...INCREDIBLE!
