With the recent election having just passed by, political opinions are still at an all time high. This 2008 election brought up many topics for debate, and with the economic recession threatening the core of many people's lives, there was an intense fever running through the country with this election. People were looking for an answer, where they in fact knew that there was no ready-made answer to be given. The country needed time to recover from the economic turmoil, and a stable plan put in place to get out of the situation and remain stable. Terrorism was also on people's minds, as it probably always will be since the attacks on September 11. Amongst all of the crises and problems and issues there was also a main focus on the candidates. Something new was brought to the table for this election and it became another focus in itself.
The politics and issues of the 2008 election almost became secondary at some points as the actual candidates themselves became an issue. Barack Obama and Sarah Palin seemed to take the forefront in the leadership campaign as far as their personalities went and what they stood for. Barack Obama had the potential to become the first black president of the United States of America, which was a ground-breaking event for the country. Sarah Palin was a good candidate to become the first woman vice president of the US. Putting both together was itself a topic for debate.
Sarah Palin held her head high during the entire campaign, even when ridiculed for not knowing the issues. She stood proud as a woman and as a wife and mother while she showed the country that she could do it all. She could be professional and personal at the same time, and set a new high standard for women across the country to achieve. Barack Obama held his political opinions at the forefront and let the country know that black and white no longer played a part in American politics. He showed himself to be a true family man of values and ethics, and proved himself worthy of being the next president.
Both of these contenders made the news headlines often, due to their high profiles, and America love to watch them. No matter what your political views are both of these candidates stood for something else beyond politics. They both made America proud by not bowing to it and keeping political issues at the forefront as much as possible. Whether you like or hate the political parties each one belongs to, they both commanded a certain respect from the country for their personal achievements and for everything they represented by running for these high profile offices. Hats off to Sarah and Obama!
