Indecision The Hallmark Of The Obama Administration


In a scene eerily reminiscent of the troop level decision in Afghanistan, the Obama administration cannot come to terms with choosing a venue for the terror trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, or the type of court he should be tried in, criminal or military. The Attorney General Eric Holder had originally made the decision of criminal court in lower Manhattan, but a firestorm of criticism that began after Mayor Bloomberg switched positions to oppose this has made the President vacillate.

Homeland Security A Political Football?


Yesterday both Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and Eric Holder did not rule out the potential for a military trial versus a criminal trial. What does this inability to come to an informed decision in the first place say about those in charge? What does the inability to stand firm in the decision made regardless of opposition say to the rest of the world in terms of the resolve of the President?

This Fairy Tale was created by a Pastor's wife (actual source unknown), and it depicts the chronology of events that lead us to today. On the one hand it is extremely funny, but in reality it is not!

Promise and Compromise

You've probably had the  experience where through the diverse objectives and perspectives of the people on your team, what you set out to create and what you got where not exactly the same.   As concessions are made to reach a point of consensus, a completely different animal begins to takes shape.

It has been said that "a camel is horse designed by a committee."

Interestingly, having researched this much quoted maxim, there is no true consensus on  WHO actually said it first. 

As leaders, be it in our home, in our business, or  in our community, we are often in a position requiring a promise or commitment.  In many cases, to keep that promise or commitment will require the help of others, and often to get that help, you face a compromise.

When you look at the definition of the words as indicated in the links above, I found something intersting. They both come from the same Latin root – promissus which means to send forth and compromissus which means to send forth mutually  or together.

Over the last two years, watching national and world events, I have seen many examples of this, but no better examples than what we have all watched unfold in Washington D.C.

Comparison Of Empty Rhetoric To Fear Of Action

On June 12, 1987, Ronald Reagan, a man who said what he meant and meant what he said, uttered this now famous phrase:

Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!
A little more than two years later, the wall came down and the two Germany's were united. 
Fast Forward To The Iranian Crisis

The United States and our allies (some of whom real and some in name only), in attempting to end the nuclear threat out of Iran, have been doing a dance of futility which has enabled Iran to get the upper hand. The upper hand in this case is continuing along on nuclear weapons development. It has additionally made the United States appear to be weak, indecisive and able to be played by regimes bent on evil. These are recent statements made by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, which basically relinquishes the handling of this problem to the U.N. and to some consensus among our counterpart counties:

Was Abdulmutallab Caught Stealing A Car, Or Attempting To Blow 300+ People Out Of The Sky On The Orders Of al-Qaeda?


Here we have a bona fide terrorist who was trained by bona fide terrorists. Is it possible that this man possessed some information that may have been of use to the United States and international intelligence agencies? You bet there was! If there was ever a place for water boarding or any other technique necessary to get every piece of potentially critical information out of this terrorist, this would certainly seem to fit.

Harry Reid is a racist? Should he resign?

Compare Reid's Statements to Those of Trent Lott in 2002


In 2002, Trent Lott was railroaded out of his position for saying something kind to an old man at his 100th birthday party. That the country would have been better off if he had won the presidency in 1948. The recipient of his remarks was Strom Thurmond, who in 1948 was a segregationist.

An insensitive attempt at humor yes, but racist? How does that compare to the comments attributed to Reid. At the time of the Lott statements, Obama supported his losing his position.

The 2008 Campaign


During the primary and presidential campaigns that propelled now President Obama into office, seemingly any reference to substantive issues by the opposition concerning this candidate were deemed racist by the mainstream media and members of the Democrat Party.

The World Dithers as Tehran Marches On


Deadlines come and go, threats are made and not followed through on and the nuclear machinery in Iran continues to churn with nothing, or no one, seemingly willing to stop it. Russia and China (discussed later) put up a false front of desiring to stop Iran's nuclear ambitions, while the United States led by Barack Obama has unfortunately become a paper tiger. While once feared to have bite behind our bark, the words of the current administration ring hollow.

No lacking in the supply of strong sounding rhetoric with no backbone unfortunately behind it. If you don't believe me, ask the rest of the world who is more than aware of this situation of weak leadership at the helm of what is supposed to be the worlds only superpower.
