European Entrepreneurship going big at Stanford University

TechnologyInternet

Today I want to share with you one of the best initiatives regarding european entrepreneurship that I've seen in a long time.

Stanford University has in fact developed an awesome seminar series about european entrepreneurship and innovation. The program, called "European Entrepreneurship & Innovation Thought Leaders Seminar" is directed by Burton Lee, a visionary professor and general vc and technology startups expert.

It is a weekly lecture series and is offered each Monday afternoon (4:15-5:30pm) in Skilling Auditorium on the Stanford Engineering campus. It's open to the public at no charge and all the videos are online for everyone to watch. (Here is the info required to watch the video).

Some of this year's topics included:"New Venture Funds in Europe", "French and Irish Entrepreneurs in Software & Cleantech", "Nordic Entrepreneurs and Venture Spinouts", "Entrepreneurs & Venture Investors in Spanish Regions", "Venture Capital and Technology Outsourcing in Eastern Europe" and "Europe in the Global Entrepreneurship Scene".

I strongly suggest you watch the videos of some of these, there's some inspiring stuff to take out from them. Also take some time tomorrow and join in to watch the "Venture Capital and Social Media Startups in Spain and Southeast Europe" lecture which will feature Nico Goulet – Managing Partner, Adara Venture Partners and Andrej Nabergoj – CEO & Co-Founder, Noovo. I surely will.

Arktan is an online service that helps you to keep up to date with blogs, news, photos, videos and other content that your friends are adding on multiple websites such as Blogspot, Flickr, Picasa, YouTube, Twitter, StumbleUpon etc., My longtime friends Sriray & Rahul are the co-founders of Arktan who are Indians from the Silicon Valley.

Arktan has a very cool and vibrant interface. Its a refreshing change from the blue and white world of Orkut, Facebook and so many other sites. The registration process is very slick. I provided the user name that I commonly use on the Web - ramaraobobby, and Arktan automatically found several of the sites that I use.

Mind the Bridge: connecting Italy and Silicon Valley

This is a post I wrote for TechCrunch Europe last week. Some editing by Mike Butcher.

As you may know, there is a large Italian-expat community in Silicon Valley. A lot of first-time entrepreneurs decided to move there for all the obvious reasons and the lack of opportunity in Italy. But, luckily, some of them haven't forgotten those they left behind. Some of them are trying to help Italian startups move to the Valley and thus gain a global perspective and a cycle of companies coming back and forth.

Sarah Lacy Talks about the State of Silicon Valley

Sarah Lacy is a busy lady. She co-hosts the Web video show Yahoo! Tech Ticker, writes and edits for TechCrunch and is a columnist for BusinessWeek. As if that wasn't enough, she has written a book: Once You're Lucky, Twice You're Good which is about the rise of Web 2.0 and is now working on her second book which will be about global entrepreneurship. How she finds the time for all this is beyond me, but we’ve been very lucky to have her in Israel for the past week-and-a-half and she has been a constant presence at events like Garage Geeks and Kinernet. She has also been quitecandid about her thoughts on the condition of the venture capital/ start-up ecosystem in Israel.

Last week at the Innovation Luncheon we had Sarah to ourselves and she graciously gave us a short talk about the current state of state of affairs in Silicon Valley and the wider tech industry. As promised here is the video of Sarah’s talk:
