Over here in the UK we have a program shown on television from time to time in a series on the BBC- called Dragon's Den.
The essence of this show is that budding entrpreneurs pitch their business idea to five "Dragons" - well known, successful entrepreneurs here who have "made it".
Essentially, the Dragons collectively discuss the pitch, and either make an offer of the cash requested, for equity, or don't. It's certainly entertaining, if unlike any financing pitch you've ever made before.
You can find out more here.
In yesterdays' news, it was reported that one of the Dragons - Theo Paphitis - is backing a new campaign launched by the Carbon Trust - a UK governement initiative aimed at getting business to reduce its carbon footprint. This campaign is a drive to provide up to £100M GBP of interest free loans to UK small business.

The UK is hotly tipped to be the slowest country in the "recession" race - lagging behind almost every other G20 country.
There's a good reason for that. Simply, we are, collectively, looking the wrong way - that is, the UK is set on a course of self defeat not seen since the last labour government. The key difference this time is that we have not seen the level of strikes, workers' revolt, and three day weeks we saw in the seventies. Much of the remainder is darkly haunting to those old enough to recall that period in our nation's history.
We have an innate advantage this time around, that was missing during the decade of doom, however - and though many hate the prospect, we have Margaret Thatcher, and her revolutionary government of the eighties to thank for it. That advantage lies in getting up and doing something for ourselves, in a way we never did before. Entrepreneurialism.

The Five Reasons Small Business’ Fail In the U.S. over 100,000 new businesses start each year, many are home-based. Unfortunately, over 95% of those businesses fail within 5 years. In these difficult economic times, only 2/3 of small business startups survive the first two years and less than half make it 4 years. At year 5, only 1 of 5 small businesses is still viable. Why such a high failure rate for small business? What can be done to stop this terrible trend? Although there are probably over 100 reasons why small businesses fail within 5 years, I want to discuss what I believe are the top five. 1. Lack of Planning Proper planning before the enterprise is established can make the difference between success and failure. A good business plan is a roadmap to the future of your business. In the business plan, you can honestly assess your product, customers, budget, financing, marketing outlook, and competitors. A good business plan highlights the best routes to profitability and highlights the potential risks along the way. [1] The business plan is essential if you want to know where to go and how to get there. The business plan will require you to look at all aspects of the business and focus on your goals, vision and establish plans to accomplish them. A well crafted business plan is the vital life line to a new business.

The Timex2154 is a conceptual watch design that took runner-up in the global watch design competition sponsored by Timex and Core77. So in the near future we may get to wear watch on our fingernail rather on our wrist. Just imagine how small can an electronic device go. I bet in the future they may even be able to integrate a 1 mega pixel camera into it. |

Are you and your friends sick and tired of looking for places to meet new guys? They are out there, but you need to break out old the old routine and start looking where they are and not where you are. I am sure if they knew you were there, they would be too. But since they don't it is time to expand your horizons when you are looking for that special someone. Before I jump into some ideas for you girls to meet new guys lets lay out some common knowledge facts. I am not trying to insult you, just trying to apply some logic. If you hate sports, don't try to meet a new guy at a bar next to the ballpark. If you don't like to drink alcohol, don't try to meet new guys at a bar or tavern. If you are into champagne and caviar, don't try to meet guys at the Auto parts store. Enough said, you get the idea. I will provide you with some ideas to get you started meeting new guys, but you have to decide if it is right for you. Meet New Guys-Photo by desdegus 10 Spots to Meet New Guys1. The Home Improvement Store: It is a big place and there are lots of guys there that feel comfortable in that environment. It is easy to meet new guys here because it is easy for them to be themselves. Strike up a conversation or ask him a question regarding something around your house or apartment. Don't be too obvious, maybe a question about hanging a picture. |

When you start to change yourself and your mindset for success, the secret is Small Steps to Achieve Success. You will subconsciously resist change, because it is something different. You will have to change what you do and the way you think. When people decide to make a change to improve themselves and their life, they are usually excited to get going and very often take on too much change too quickly. Taking small steps to achieve success is easier to accept and change. Making a big change to the way you do things and the way you think can be a big shock to your psyche. Whenever you do something different than your normal routine there will be resistance. Taking small steps to achieve success is important for you to adjust and continue past this resistance. This resistance is your own mind trying to maintain the norm. Naturally you resist change whether consciously or subconsciously. This first obstacle is a natural occurrence, taking small steps and knowing why, can get you through and keep you moving forward to achieving success. One Step at a Time - Photo by:bladeflyer |
