"Do you trust your life and safety in the hands of your health authorities?" Most people will not hesitate to answer YES. I recall, as a child, a small voice inside me has always asked,"How do we know what goes into our medicine?" 20 years later, I decide to attempt answering this question! (Disclaimer: All facts provided in this blog entry are easily available on the internet. As such I am not liable for any thing you decide out of reading this article. There are many people who need to be credited for this article - I apologise if I did not mention those people for the sake of brevity for this article!)

Here are 3 of the world's Greatest Health Myths busted:

1. Artificial sugars like Nutrasweet/Splendor are good for diabetics.

MYTH!! There is nothing natural in Nutrasweet! It is indeed artificial sugar. Splendor (aka Splenda) a variation of Nutrasweet is actually chemical chlorine. Clinical trials show that Aspartame is able to neutralise all nutrients of the last meal you ate. And more!

Perhaps Mrs. Victoria Innes-Brown, a private citizen of the USA, gave one of the most compelling evidence of Aspartame when she did an experiment feeding 2 groups of rats - one with Aspartame and the other without.

Senator Gerald Ortiz y Pino (New Mexico State Senator) once wrote to the ex-Acting Commissioner of FDA, a Dr. Frank Torti, to pull all artificial aspartame from supermarket shelves.

The Sugar Association (in America) is still in a long drawn-out legal tussle with the makers of Splendor and while waiting for its results, Diet Coke and other gassy soda have been manufactured and distributed. Today some sweet candies and menthols have warning labels of consequences for consuming "excessive" sweets because they contain aspartame or similar. As it is not mandatory to list Aspartame in food and drinks (the FDA made it so), many went without listing aspartame in their products. Perhaps the best way is to avoid any suspicious processed foods and drinks as much as possible. And why not juice your own drinks! Choose organic fruits!

2. Flouride in water strengthens your teeth!

MYTH!! What the hell is FLUORIDE? It is a waste compound of the aluminium industry, more poisonous than lead. (Flouride is also known as fluorine or Prozac.)

Although it's true that was what most in the world including I have been conditioned to believe in, the World Health Organisation does not see any differences in people's dental health when comparing countries with and without flouridated water.

Mike Adams (health advocate and customer evangelist), NaturalNews.com,said,

"Think about it: now instead of dumping toxic waste (rocket fuel, flouride, etc) products into landfills where the chemicals leach into the groundwater supplies and get consumed by people, these toxic chemicals get consumed by people first, then they get flushed into the rivers and streams. It reminds me of the beef industry, where one of the USDA-approved feed ingredients for cows is, believe it or not, "chicken litter." (I'm not making this up.) Apparently, there's no good way to get rid of all that chicken excrement unless you feed it to cows."

Dr. Joseph Mercola (respected doctor and physician, health educator), Mercola.com , said,

"A leading Harvard toxicologist who found that fluoride in water produced nervous system changes in rats that resemble attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was fired just days before her research was accepted for publication. Meanwhile, you'll find out the shocking connection between the U.S. Army Manhattan Project, where patients were injected--unknowingly--with plutonium and uranium to determine the toxic effects, and fluoride."

More bad news: Bottled mineral water may not be all that safe either!

It is interesting to note that in the past people have died of ingesting flouride supplements. Kids under aged 6 are also advised to stay away from fluoridated toothpaste because just a pea-size can kill a child.

Unlike chlorine, fluoride cannot be rid of through boiling of water. And most current water treatments are not fully effective in getting rid of chemicals in water supply, so it makes sense NOT to use chemical soap/detergents, fertiliser, etc. Replace chemical detergents with organic soap nuts (real nuts from trees).

Many people also either turn to using an organic Neem toothpaste (an aryuvedic product from India; Neem is a bark of a kind of tree) or they get a reverse-Osmosis water-filter to filter flouridated water.

And if you have tested your country's water supply for a non-biased chemical and bacteria analysis, I'd be most willing to know your findings! (Just leave a comment!)

3. Vaccinations are very necessary and 100% safe!

MYTH! Unfortunately, vaccinations are becoming less and less effective. Since humans started eating steroid-injected meat, bacteria have found ways to be more resistant to Penincillin.

Added to the fact that vaccines nowadays contain mercury and God-knows-what-else in order to 'preserve' them for as long as possible. There's no denying that it is indeed more profitable if people kept being sick - more drugs and more vaccinations translate to more money!

The most recent vaccine horror affected teenaged girls who were given "anti cervical cancer shots". The vaccine is known as Gardasil.

Barbara Loe of http://vaccineawakening.blogspot.com gve this link if you wish to read what Gardasil does: http://www.nvic.org/nvic-archives/pressrelease/gardasilgirls.aspx

In a Cochrane Collaboration review and analysis of published influenza vaccine studies conducted by Tom Jefferson, M.D., Ph.D. and his colleagues, they found that influenza vaccine studies sponsored by industry are treated more favorably by medical journals even when the studies are of poor quality.

There were also previously suppressed studies that find vaccinations coincide with the sharp and sudden rise in autism in children.

There was an offer by a gentleman named Jock Doubleday for a $110,000 reward to any health official who publicly drinks a mixture of standard vaccine additives ingredients in the same amount as a six-year-old child is recommended to receive under the year-2005 guidelines of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And another US$10,000 will be given by a gentleman who's lost his 7-year-old son who died of a seizure after vaccination.

I don't believe the offer is taken by anyone yet by the way!

Is it any wonder more and more parents in the USA and Canada now prefer to home-school their kids knowing that they won't be allowed into schools if they refused the mandatory vaccinations?

I got this from my support group:
It saddens me to inform your readers that Wednesday morning Senator Tim Jennings cast the vote that killed a vital consumer protection measure in Senate Rules Committee. That was Senate Memorial 9 of Gerald Ortiz y Pino which asked the FDA to take this carcinogenic and neurotoxic artificial sweetener off the market, since it is still found in 6000 products, from food to pharmaceuticals.
This chemical (aspartame, artifical sugar) was patented by G.D. Searle, which back in 1966 was investigating peptic ulcer drugs; the story from Searle is that the chemist licked his finger, and discovered that it was 200 times as sweet as sugar, profit lights went off in the chandelier in the corporate board's cerebelum, but the FDA turned them down for approval for 15 years because of concerns over the methyl ester in aspartame becoming methanol then formaldehyde, and causing harm to the consumer. Jennings mentioned in the committee that he had had problems with acid reflux and would vote against the Memorial which he did (as if it still had something to do with peptic ulcer drugs!); I wonder if that was apparently all he had read of the Memorial, the first sentence: but I pointed out as politely as I could muster, that it had been considered as a peptic ulcer drug 46 years ago, but that was kind of like talking with Rip Van Winkel after his 300 year nap....
I really don't know if Tim Jennings is among the diet soda guzzlers still. If he has quit, he did so out of concern for his own health. If he DIDN'T quit consuming aspartame, he certainly is in no real position to be deciding such things for the rest of the state, especially since it was only a Memorial REQUESTING the FDA to taken it off the market, and to vote from a position of such a total lack of accurate medical information is absolutely shocking to me...." - Bryant, http://presidiotex.com/aspartame

While sucralose has its own list of health issues, it should be pointed out that Splenda doesn't have aspartame in it.

Hi Shari! Although Stevia is a good alternative to refined sugar (sugarcane sugar, fructose, genetically modified or artificial sugars should be avoided), Stevia is bitter in coffee and confectionaries. I've switched to brown sugar but again I am not using a lot of it.

Bravo, Bravo, 2 Thumbs Up. I have been ranting and raving about these issues for years. I have been in the medical field for 15 years, work in a hospital now, and advise patients to question their doctors advice every day. No artificial sweeteners (none) for two years and no fluoride in my water or my personal care products. And the accumulating information that is piling up about vaccines make me fear for my grand-kids. And don't forget the one person dying every month since they started Gardasil, I called and warned every one of my kids.

I agree with point #1. However, I do think fluoride and vaccinations are a good thing. It's a slippery slope when you start advising parents not to vaccinate their children. Maybe a few of them need to be looked into and researched farther but overall, I think they are necessary.

I appreciated this article because I have done independent research in all three of those areas.

You mentioned Dr. Mercola in your section on fluoride. He also has written a book called Sweet Deception about the dangers of aspartame and other artificial sweeteners. I usually avoid sugar, but after reading his book when I have to make a choice between sugar and one of the artificial sweeteners, I'll choose sugar every time.

I also don't use fluoride. Your readers might like to do some research into xylitol instead. Many studies have shown that it is very effective in re-mineralizing teeth. I only use toothpaste and mouthwash that contains xylitol. It is also known as a natural sweetener but have found that it causes gas and diarrhea when used as a sub for sugar. But it doesn't have an aftertaste.

I have chosen not to immunize my child. He is in a homeschool co-op where none of the other kids are immunized either.

Your article clearly demonstrates the trend of Americans taking their health into their own hands.
I'm looking forward to the next installment.

Nice post - It's always good questioning stuff, but there are some issues that considered to be very complex, such as Vaccinations; it's not so simple to say it's not necessary - if people wouldn't vaccinate their kids, then all sort of diseases that we thought have passed us will come back, as it already happened in some part of the world. About the Cervical cancer vaccine - I'm currently against it because I think it's too young, research wise and we still need to learn its affects on girls/young women. Regarding your remark about Autism, I read some where that it's a myth and there is no correlation between vaccines and Autism. I'll try and find that on the net and then post a link.

Well-written article. I've worked in both the legal and medical professions for more than 30 years. I've always told people to interview their providers just as they would anyone else they hire. Don't take one person's words as the end all and be all. Get other opinions and do your own research --- so easy now on the internet. As with everything --- there will be information on both ends of the spectrum. Read it all and then use your brain and formulate questions to ask your medical providers that will illicit more information and allow them to know you are educated on the subject at hand.

And get back to eating more freshly prepared food at home --- get away from the prepackaged/manufactured food. It seldom takes longer to cook something good from scratch than from a mix --- we are often just too lazy to pull together all the ingredients!

Check into your area for farmer's markets and local farmers who sell to the public or farm coops. Get your food fresh and help the farmers by cutting out the middle man. Check out the SloFood Movement.

And grow some of your own food. I know a wonderful place to get Heirloom Tomato seedlings and plan to plant mine in pots this year since I'm in an RV. Lettuce and green beans are easily grown in pots also.

Take responsibility for your health and teach your children how to maintain a healthy diet by incorporating this into your lifestyle.

Good article.

chicken excrement in my beef...ugh! That's disgusting. Reminds me of another disgusting practice of the beef industry: rendering. This is the practice of feeding beef "cows" with the body parts and internal organs of other animals. I mean, I don't have a problem with eating that stuff myself. I am, after all, a caveman. But I sure as hell don't want my beef cows eating it. No wonder bovines are going mad and the ozone layer is deteriorating.
