I was sitting here not really knowing what to write about tonight and I stared at the glass of ice cold Coca-Cola standing on the table in front of me. So I got to thinking, I wonder what Coca-Cola does to my body? You might say I am a Coca-Cola addict although I would claim that it is not as bad as it used to be. Not too long ago I would drink about 2 L per day which is an enormous amount. I admit. Now I'm down to about 4 L per week because I have also started drinking water and milk with my meals. Actually the variation is kind of nice although I do like my Coca-Cola.
So what happens when we drink a glass of Coke? Did you ever think about that?
If you don't drink the Diet Coke, then you will consume about 10 teaspoons of sugar which is your recommended daily intake so this actually means that us Coca-Cola drinkers get way too much sugar during the day because we also eat and drink other things containing sugar.
Then what happens is that your blood sugar shoots through the roof causing an insulin burst and this makes your liver turn all the sugar into fat. Yes fat, the ugly word.
Once you have consumed all of that sugar your blood pressure will rise and your pupils are going to dilate which automatically makes your liver pump even more sugar around your bloodstream until it hits your brain and you will be unable to feel drowsy. This explains why I am sitting up until 3 AM most nights, wide awake with a glass of coke in front of me.
After about an hour you're going to feel a sort of sugar crash where you might become slightly irritable and you will by now have peed away all the water that was in the Coke!
That's when you start craving more Coke.
And for those of you who think that Diet Coke is not so bad, let me tell you that it has been associated with cancer and leukemia.
Cheers.
