Women above 40 are encouraged to manually detect possible tumours in their breasts (and other parts of their bodies), by touching and feeling themselves in shower or in bed.
I disagree. As someone coming from a high-risk cancer group (my mum had 2 cancer operations in 2 different 'places'), I don't need to wait till 40.
Also, I am bad about "manually detecting" possible abnormal growths. In this case, my fingers and brain don't seem to coordinate too well! lol
A friend suggested that I need to do it (touch myself) everyday to familiarise myself with what's normal and what may be an increased growth or tumour.
I tried. Total flop! Images of Twitter's Fail Whale comes to mind! lol
Because the next day or next week, I don't remember if a lump has grown or not. I may also have mistaken normal mammary glands for abnormal lumps! May be I should have used a ruler to measure its size in the first place....keep a journal, etc!
That's not what busy people do!
The thing is, I DON'T TRUST MYSELF! I am not a doctor.
So what was I to do?
Go for an annual blood and urine test that will detect any abnormalities before the disease starts. Diseases related to lungs, liver, kidney and heart.
The tests don't give you instant results but will also detect any HIV disease including Aids within 4 days in all.
I last spent SG$150 for the tests but it was well worth it. I was able to see the level of good and bad blood cholesterol I had. The best thing perhaps I was able to have a peaceful sleep, fully knowing I didn't "ignore my body nor health".
Anyway, prevention is always better than cure or diagnosis.
Do all these right: eat, exercise, rest, sleep and read!
Read? Why of course! Stay tuned to what and whys of diseases and how these may affect your health. You live for those you love, aren't you? So be well for the ones you love.
To your great health! (And thank you for reading or commenting! It helps me to improve!)
