SEO Tips For Your Twitter and Facebook Page To Rank You Higher On Google

TechnologyInternet

Now that Twitter and Facebook fan pages are included in Google search results, I thought I would share with you a few SEO tips to get more SEO push out of your twitter and facebook pages.

These tips apply to both twitter and facebook fan pages and they are simple to do.. and we all like simple..right?  lol

Choose The Best Name and Username

Your name should include one of your keywords, or at least fit your niche. Ex: if you sell dog toys, then choose a name that fits that. twitter, facebook, twitter seo, facebook fan pages,
johnpaulaguiar.com, make money with a blog

You can also add a keyword to your display name too. I don’t do this because it makes it less personal, but if SEO juice is what you want then keyword your name too.

Use A Actual Website URL

With you url in your profile, make sure to use your actual url not a shortened one.  Also remove the “www” since Google only takes your first 20 characters.

Juice Up Your Profile

Your profile is a great place to put your keywords, but again don’t go over board since you want to personalize your profile as much as you can, and you only have 160 char. Keywords will help with search also on twitter makes it easier for people to search and find you.

SEO Your Avatar

This is cool, you can SEO your profile picture! You can’t can rename the photo before you upload it that way when it shows up in the URL it will have the keywords that you named. Make sure to leave NO spaces.

Use Keywords and Hashtags

Is Sponsored Tweets The Beginning Of The End Of Twitter?

TechnologyInternet

I been hearing a lot about twitter becoming more and more noisy with sponsored tweets, or advertising tweets.

I can see both sides of this argument and I agree with both sides.. I think..lol

Basically a sponsored tweet is a tweet about a product or service that you are paid to tweet to your followers.

I think this is a great way to advertise real time and reach your target audience. I think the problem most people have is more with the frequency people will post these type of tweets.

If you tweet out helpful, informative, and funny tweets that people like, then a sponsored tweet here and there wont piss people off to much.

Now if you are tweeting 5-10 tweets a day and 4 are sponsored, then yes people will get pissed off and unfollow you.

I send sponsored tweets out at one per day.  It is a nice way to make a little extra money on the side just by tweeting.

Right now there are 3 main sites that you can sign up with that offer twitter advertising.

SponsoredTweets.com

sponsoredtweets.com, make money with a blog, johnpaulaguiar.com

Sponsored Tweets is a new Twitter advertising platform that connects advertisers with tweeters. Advertisers can create sponsored conversations on Twitter. Tweeters can earn money for spreading the word.

All you need is a Twitter account to get started. Sponsored Tweets is a white listed Twitter application and uses your Twitter credentials to create an account.

Should you use a traditional press release to announce a social media presence?

World AffairsBusiness & Finance

Adena Schutzberg shared a Friday, March 5 post that talked about the benefits of using a traditional press release to announce a social media presence. Here's part of Schutzberg's post:

If learning via a press release that the organization behind the GIS software you use at work or school is now on Facebook, it might just encourage you to check out Facebook. While press releases may seem "old fashioned" to some, that area of our website continues to be one of the most read parts of Directions Magazine in 2010.

As it turns out, Glenn Letham (coincidentally, also involved in the GIS community) recently stated the exact opposite view:

Recently I’ve received “news releases” from companies because they have started on Twitter and on facebook… I’m sorry, but come on! The fact that your company is using a social tool like facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or ??? is NOT news. The best way to promote the fact that you’re trying to go social is to actually use social outlets to share this information. Penning a proper press release to announce yet another social bookmark is only adding to the noise and in my mind could back-fire.

Twitter has Jumped the Shark

TechnologyInternet

Is Twitter still "the future of online marketing"? Or is it just a 21st century babble machine?

Charmed by the new tool's potential, I recommended Twitter in my latest book. But today (only a year later), I think Twitter is collapsing under the weight of its own success.

Here are 5 reasons why I think Twitter is OVER and has "jumped the shark":

1. Twitter is too easy to use: Twitter has such a low threshold to use (only 140 characters per message and FREE), that people have no hesitation to babble. And less scrupulous marketers have no hesitation to spam.

Twitter is DEAD! The pretend “conversation” we’re all supposed to be having on Twitter has devolved into an opt-in spam fest

“Big time” twitterers with large followings (or social media pros who are online all day) still find Twitter useful for conversation but the signal to noise ratio is dropping rapidly, making Twitter a less useful marketing tool every day.

2. Synchronicity: Twitter can only be used to communicate with people who are also on and active at the same time. This restricts Twitter’s utility to real-time conversations, often in the same time zone.

For example, since I am based in Los Angeles, I can easily communicate with fellow Tweeters in the Pacific Time Zone. But if I start my tweeting too late in the day, people in the Eastern Time Zone may be hard to reach, and my friends in Europe are virtually invisible to me on Twitter.
