I seldom do this, but I am asking for donations ($5.00 each) for Jackson (#086) in the IMOM Calendar Contest.  Voting ends today.

Originally Jackson was a rescue through the organization I founded, Southern California Giant Schnauzer Rescue, Inc.  We placed him in a good home in Arizona.  Unfortunately Jackson developed serious health problems which were impossible for a single Mom of 4 to handle.  Jackson was given medical treatment by Dr. Suzanne Higgins who owns

A small, much used Xerox photocopier in the li...

Image via Wikipedia

This morning I got an e-mail from Bloggersbase telling me to write something humorous for this humor category before I lose my spot in the competition. Nevermind that I'm already writing my ass off in the love and relationships category and the health category. Sure, why don't I sit down and write 10 brilliant humorous articles? Because I find it very hard to be funny on command. I'm not trying to be a show off but people usually call me a very funny person. Mine is a very dry, sarcastic form of humor... I just find it very hard to put down in words, especially when I have a deadline and 4 to 5 other articles to write as well!

Let's discuss some fun ways to annoy other people..thanks to Bloggersbase for the inspiration :-)

Number one.
Find a good seat on the subway and when somebody sits down next to you, dig into your bag and find a sketchbook and a pencil. Then stare very intensely into the other person's face and start drawing.

Number two.
Do you work in an office? If you're done using the copy machine, set it to 17 inch paper, extra dark and 99 copies.

Number three.
Going through a drive through? Make sure they understand that your order is to go. State it many times. "Now remember, this is to go".

Number four.

Mama, I'm Swollen'

I genuinely get excited and eagerly await any new release by either of Tim Kasher's bands, after all he is responsible for writing and venting on some of my favourite albums. Over the years I think I have spun Cursive's 'The Ugly Organ' and The Good Life's 'Album Of The Year' billions of times.

Obviously it was good news when i found out Cursive would release their 6th studio album titled 'Mama, I'm Swollen' on the 10th of March. To make things even sweeter the good folk at Saddle Creek decided to sellthe digital version for just 1$ on the 1st of March, 2$ on the 2nd, 3$ on the 3rd etc. until the release date. As far as cool marketing ideas go this one rates highly and rewards the fans who buy early.

At the time of the competition Saddle Creek's website was obviously slow or unresponsive, I assume due to the sheer amount of requests this deal had attracted. I had managed to get through and listened to the album on that morning. I'm still really impressed with the tracks on display and since it is as good as the band's other recorded output I may well also chip in for the $15 double vinyl version.

PS3 Slim – Now Out On The Market!

Digital EntertainmentGaming

I was shocked to hear that the PS3 slim has been release and is out on the market cheaper than ever! Sony slimmed down the PS2 back in 2004 in the hope of breathing new life in to the console which worked. Now Sony have done it again but this time with the PS3 and not just that, they’ve even slimmed down the price!

It’s good to know that the new slim PS3 is almost identical to the 80GB and 160GB ‘fat” version. I own the 80GB version. This slim PS3 comes with an impressive 120GB hard drive, built in Blu-Ray drive and more. One feature that the new PS3 has lost however is the ability to use a different OS (Linux) but apart from that everything else is pretty similar apart from the aesthetics of course. You will still receive the built-in Wi-Fi connectivity unlike the Xbox where the Wi-Fi adapter is an add-on costing around $100, you’ll also still get a handy two USB ports for plugging in external storage devices and another one for charging the Dualshock 3 controller which comes with the console and you’ll also get the same built-in Profile 2.0 Blu-ray player with BD-Live capabilities.

Like the ‘fat’ version this version also supports the playback of MPEG-1 and MPEG-4/h.264 video files from USB or disc-based media, as well as JPEG image viewing. It allows you to view images in a slideshow which is quite impressive.

Eligible or Ineligible: Only Obama Knows for Sure...

EntertainmentMedia

The question of Barack Hussein Obama's true place of birth is still not-so-quietly percolating and the media, including CNN and the online conservative website World Net Daily are on it.  In fact, WND's Joseph Farah has offered a $10,000 reward to anyone who can prove that he or she was present at Obama's birth.
"Barack Obama claims to have been born in Honolulu Aug. 4, 1961," explains Farah. "His entire constitutional claim to the presidency rests on this premise. Yet, he refuses to release a copy of his long-form birth certificate – the only document that could possibly corroborate his claim. Therefore, in the interest of truth, justice and the Constitution, I am making the extraordinary offer to entice someone to come forward with the facts of his birth – whether it took place in Hawaii or elsewhere."
On the other hand, you would think that the Governor of Hawaii, Linda Lingle, would have scoped out the facts on Obama's birth certificate way back during his campaign (especially since she is Republican), so it seems unlikely that he could have gotten away with such a fraud as a forged Hawaiian birth certificate. On FactCheck an article was written one year ago supposedly proving that Obama's birth certificate is authentic. However, yesterday the Nebraska StatePaper wrote an article requesting Obama to produce a certified copy of his original birth certificate (yes, I know, it is

Metric's 2005 release Live It Out seems to have been conceived in a secret laboratory with the purpose of combining my favourite music fixations: Female vocals + attitude filled lyrics + quiet/loud guitars = lethal cocktail. Emily Haines oozes sexy immediacy as she delivers memorable soundbytes over a layer of jangly guitars and confident beats.

Momentarily dropping the reflective/spacey sound that the band was previously associated with from other releases, all worth pursuing, here Metric seem intent on delivering their manifesto in the most direct fashion without sacrificing the many soaring dynamics that characterise their sound.

With new album Fantasies out since April 2009 and every bit as good as their previous efforts Metric are the musical equivalent of racing a million dollar car down the wrong way of a one way street.

Even USA Today Has to Admit That Obama’s Stimulus Ain’t Working

World AffairsPolitics & Opinions

stimulusFor two days in a row, July 7 and 8, USA Today ran articles detailing where the so-called stimulus money from Obama’s big plan to save the American economy have been going. For those of us who aren’t believers in the Obama Change message, this information is nothing new and is entirely expected.

On July 7, Matt Kelley writes:
“Under pressure to spend stimulus money quickly, many states are using the federal funds for short-term projects and to fill budget gaps rather than spending on long-term improvements, according to a report by congressional investigators.”

The report that Mr. Kelley refers to is the Government Accountability Office’s report to the House oversight hearing. The report highlights several acts of mismanagement and shows the reason that government can’t be expected to do anything well, especially when they do it quickly.

So far, a little more than half of the $49 billion stimulus aimed for the states has already been doled out. The results are abysmally short-sighted and wasteful. In other words, government as usual.
