5. Game developers are still making great games for the PS2.
With so many PS2 owners out there--150 million plus and counting--many game makers have no choice but to continue to create content for the 10-year-old machine. Want to play Major League Baseball 2K9? Don't worry; it's on the PS2. It may lack some of the bells and whistles of the Xbox 360 version and PS3, but it's still great.
4. PS2 games generally retail for $10, $20, $30, or $40 (yes, $40) cheaper than they cost for next-gen consoles.
The price for MLB 2K9 on the PS3 and 360: $60. Price for MLB 2K9 on the PS2: $20.
3. The latest models of the PlayStation 3 are no longer backwards compatible.
Translation: To cut costs, Sony ditched backwards compatibility. That means your collection of PS2 games will not function on the newest PS3's. If you want something to play your PS2 games on, you need to use the PS2.
2. PS2 versus Wii: Waggle doesn't always equal "better."
Face Facts: The Wii isn't a very powerful machine. In fact, it's not really much more powerful than the PS2. What the Wii offers is more motion-centric interactivity. If you absolutely need to make swinging motions when playing MLB Power Pros, buy the Wii version. But if you're OK with button presses--and I'm sorry, but sometimes button presses are simply more accurate and just as satisfying--buy the PS2 version of MLBPower Pros.
1. Some of the greatest sports video games of all time are PS2-only games.
