My blog was hacked today. Somehow someone inserted a huge line of code into my blogs header which caused it to redirect to a bunch of stupid sites. I wish I could redirect something right back at them that would blow up their damn computers while they’re busy hacking into someone’s private property. These people make me insane!!!!! I wasn’t aware of how much I didn’t know about these morons. I didn’t know that hacker isn’t really an appropriate word for these #$$@^&*(), the appropriate term would be cracker. Hackers break code for good and crackers break code for evil. Here’s some info from a great site which helped me better understand the world of a hack or crack or whatever the heck they are. hackingalert.com

Personally I notified several bloggers this week that they’d been infected with this stupid lil click trash. yes it’s a click virus.

this thing only has one purpose – to fake clicks

now we all know that this is behaviour created by people who want to cheat a click based reward system. why do it ? well lets just say that somefolks have no initiative. they think everything should be handed to them on a Silver Platter. I don’t think so crackers..

This family of Trojans redirects victim machines to specified websites or other Internet resources. Clickers either send the necessary commands to the browser or replace system files where standard Internet urls are stored (e.g. the ‘hosts’ file in MS Windows).

Clickers are used:

To raise the hit-count of a specific site for advertising purposes
To organize a DoS attack on a specified server or site
To lead the victim to an infected resource where the machine will be attacked by other malware (viruses or Trojans)

Have You ever seriously thought about What's Green in Your Community ?

I suspect that if these folks in prison were sorting and setting up waste for recycling; they'd have plenty of time to consider new products, and new ways to recycle the waste they already generate. I'm not talking about putting anybody out of work; but in actuality creating both workers, goods and revenue from our waste. these newly trained workers could earn money and start to beef up an industry that is sorely in need - everywhere.

Go Ahead and Gasp at my liberalism. earlier tonite I was reviewing the recycling point schedule and trying to get my schedule to match up for the drop off points. yes we have to go to drop off our recyclables; as there is no curbside recycling program in place yet. that to me sounds terribly wasteful; especially in a city on a major International waterway.

when going through my email I ran across a link to this story which was acutally pretty enlightening - check it out and then continue below

1) The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) claims that in 2008, more than 139 million Americans had access to curbside recycling programs - in fact, 9,349 national programs were available. Hmmm, doesn't seem like a lot, does it? 2) Recyclingfacts.org says that each American citizen generates 4.7 pounds of solid waste daily, the equivalent of 60 tons of garbage throughout the course of one lifetime, and yet the majority of it is in one way or another fully recyclable.
3)Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina and Wisconsin have recyclable material landfill bans, meaning that failure to comply by keeping plastic bottles, oil filters and wood pallets (among other materials) out of the waste stream results in violations and penalties. This has proven to be a fantastic incentive to streamlining the amount of waste they ultimately send to the landfill...perhaps the rest of the country should follow suit?
4) Making new products out of old recycled materials requires far less energy than using virgin materials - in fact, 30% less energy is necessary to reprocess old paper, 75% less energy for old copper and steel, and a whopping 95% less for old aluminum. Interestingly, more than 70% of the aluminum that is circulation right now is derived from virgin sources, and yet just 50% of the cans used in our country are actually recycled (compared to the global average of 63%). 5) The EPA determined that in 2008, just 2.12 million tons of the 30.05 million total tons of recyclable materials generated in the United States were actually recycled - the remaining glass, plastic, metal and paper materials (27.93 tons) were deposited in landfills. 6) Between the consumption of bathroom tissue, paper towels, magazines, newspapers and other wood pulp based products, the typical U.S. citizen is responsible for theoretically cutting down 525 trees in their lifetime (in other words, seven each year). The EPA says that if each of us merely swapped one single roll of conventional toilet paper for a 100% recycled alternative, we could free up 1.2 million cubic feet of landfill space, save 169 million gallons of water and prevent 470,000 trees from being pulped. 7) The number one recycled material in America is newspaper, 5.51 million tons of which were reclaimed and reprocessed in 2008. The EPA says that the remaining 780,000 tons were disposed of and if we recycled just 1/10 of the newsprint that passes through our hands each year, we could actually prevent 25 million trees from being cut down. 8) Despite the fact that the bulk of recyclable items can be sold to various firms for reprocessing, many municipalities don't break even offering the service to the community, which is why so many of them don't make it available. 9) 63,750 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions can be avoided altogether by recycling all household paper, glass, metal and plastic - which is the same volume of CO2 that a typical vehicle releases in a 5 year period. 10) Globally, 20 to 50 million metric tons of e‐waste are produced annually. It is estimated that in 2007 in the United States alone, just 18% of unwanted televisions and computers were recycled (the equivalent of 6.3 million units and 48.2 million units respectively), whereas a mere 10% of unwanted cell phones (14 million units) were recycled despite the fact that recycling programs are more accessible than ever.

Pretty Interesting Huh ?

I wondered if we could think a bit outside the box. why not use the energy we have to recycle more ? if the federal government said to the states that their cut of tax revenues for federal highway improvement or infrastructure improvements would be linked to their ability to become Greener; no doubt we'd see a green response; probably immediately.

one of the things I'd personally like to see implemented almost immediately is prisoner staffed recycling and sorting programs for recycling.

hey I'm not kidding here. we pay for people to sit in a heated square box 24 hrs a day doing nothing to contribute to their feeding and upkeep financially during their incarceration; or to repay the people for their mistakes.

Why not implement immediate prisoner staffed recycling programs in every state and county ?

let them sort cans, bottles, plastic, glass. let them learn to properly sort the waste from the major cities; and then recycle it into either upcycled goods or make it reusable in prison industrial projects.

one of the biggest needs I could think of would be paper sorting. yes paper. the amount of trees we could save by starting there would probably save the amazon. we need to think about tomorrow, more seriously. paper is not dangerous in the sense that it can be used to fashion a weapon; so it would be the safest place to begin, and it would answer the biggest need. paper is a pain to recycle, sort and bail. prisoners have no one to complain to for what they've gotten themselves into - so maybe the paper will listen to their stories and help them to see the reality of their mistakes.

the new companies who could benefit should be owned by the communities who pay for the prisons. put the prisoners labours back into the hands of those who can most use them - the citizens who are probably the ones the prisoners are paying reciprocity to; by being incarcerated.

Tax dollars and state funds for the department of corrections could eventually be rerouted back into the budget to help the people, instead of housing prisoners. the prisoners could be trained and certified to work as waste management specialists when they were released. thereby killing two birds with one stone, so to say .

some of the more ingenius longterm prisoners could be put into workshop settings developing new products from the recyclables. this would surely generate lots of great new green goods, and good workers ready to pay taxes on their release from incarceration. every one of them needs to complete a job requirement so this could help with that need.

As well it would help to fund new projects for this workshop. state universities and corrections departments could start the Rehabilitation Process; instead of just warehousing and disabling bodies. an idle mind is the devils workshop; so why not empower those minds to think green instead.

isn't it time we started thinking with our brains instead of our problems ?

Lets hear what you think about the possibility of Prisoner Recycling Programs. I intend to send this idea in to both my state dept of corrections and the governors' office as they can obviously use a little help getting this figured out, before we are all covered over by a mountain of our own wasted money.

Hey Mon ! Whatcha Cookin There ?

As a Graduate Chef and chief meal planner now at home; I'm always trying to think of recipes to help overcome meal monotony. yes you all know exactly what I'm talking about. it's where you look in your pantry and everything looks exactly the same. or when you look in your deep freezer and nothing jumps out at you; so to say.

I started collecting cooking videos a while ago, to help inspire me; when I'm a little unenthusiastic about cooking. first off I have to cook two special diets usually in one meal - trying to use the same ingredients, mostly. just think about that why don'tcha. I have to cook a restricted renal diet; which is no salt, no real fiber or high potassium/phosphorus ingredients. I'm sure you're just thinking now to yourselves, what the heck is she talking about ?

welllll, that means white bread instead of home-baked unbleached whole wheat bread. focaccia instead of pizza. tamales instead of chili; get it ? it's really a game of mix and match. the dietitian and I compare notes about what works and what doesn't. he drinks Rice Dream; and he's supposed to eat Rice Dream Dairy Ice - instead he likes TCBY Chocolate Yogurt.

first off he is not allowed to have chocolate; or dairy. so both are a fail. in addition he likes it topped with Hershey's chocolate syrup. still if he wants it, he gets it. he loves croissants which I bake fresh several times a week in fours. yes four only. he is not supposed to have rich anything - and he has high cholesterol; so butter is a oh hell no. still I relent. he gets his hot ass croissants; as he refers to them. I just shake my head and walk away.

I bake him blueberry muffins, and corn muffins; get him light wheat bread for sandwiches; and try as best as I can to not take everything away from him, as he says. it's a daunting task as I have High Cholesterol and am on a salt restricted diet too, so pretty much I need diuretics and he well, isn't supposed to have alot of them. I love celery, he can have it in moderation. I love Broccoli and Collard Greens. he can have them in moderation, extreme moderation. his vegetable of choice is Cabbage which is on his extremely limited consumption list; yet how could I not cook him some steamed Jamaican style cabbage with carrots, onions, garlic and fresh thyme ?

OOhhhh co'monnnn it's only cabbage..

he itches like he is on fire when he eats stuff he isn't supposed to and yet the doctors have no remedy. all of my sheets look like the scene of a cat fight . meeeeeeeeeeoooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww ! it's a real problem. this is something that goes with dialysis for some patients.

Anyway back to food Mon,

so the recipe videos are kind of interesting and provide a distraction to me during those times when I just need to get away for a minute in my own head. yes I miss making fresh strudels with supreme sauce; and gumbo with all the vegetables and shrimp. sure I miss making rice and peas in the real rice pot. but what I have today v. yesterday is a whole new cooking reality show going on everyday in my kitchen.

I also wanted to say that in order to make food more palatable when you have a special diet - my tip is to use Fresh Herbs. I love Fresh Herbs. I of course dry my own, when in season - but otherwise when I can get them - I Always Keep Fresh Thyme, Chives, Parsley, Cilantro and if I can Rosemary and Basil in my kitchen; in a vase.

I also want to show you one of my most favorite fast food Drive Throughs Literally; the restaurants in the wilds of Jamaica - in Faiths' Pen. notice the red bauxite hills above the roofs.

Yes, this is a twenty four hour operation. anytime you are passing from north to south, you must stop at Faiths Pen, just to rest and refresh yourself. that's why this food court of sorts sprung up, in carts and lean to's along side the mountain about 40 years ago. finally the government made it official.

it's breathtakingly beautiful, and has some of the best food in the world, yes the world.Notice she is cooking over a Wood and Charcoal Fire.

Yes an Open Fire. nothing is burning, and she is well in control of all her pots. she has only running water and electricity from her own generator to run her fridge and lights. Ms. Fatty is a very nice lady and she's been there for as long as I can remember. all of that food will be consumed by people who are driving along that highway you see behind her on the oposite side of that fence. btw, that fence is recent, and the vendors don't really like it since they say it cuts into their money.

the cars used to get car service by people who would run out to you with a pad asking what you wanted and they'd fix your plate and bring it to you - wherever you might be sitting to stretch your legs. kind of a form of Jamaican Car Hops. Even the Roast Corn man would have some kids who ran with a pan of hot roasted corn, dipped in butter and sell it along with bag juice; car to car so you never had to get out. now they have bathrooms and it's an official Jamaica Tourism Rest Stop.

"if unnu hungry half way a town, stop thru Faiths' Pen fi good nam down" this is an old jamaican road blessing given as you are departing usually. I've said it myself to those leaving us on the north coast heading south.

When UPS executive Craig Arnold returned to the Salvation Army children's home in Haiti after the devastating earthquake, one of the little girls there offered him her bottle of water.

It was one of many poignant moments for Arnold, who has been volunteering with the Salvation Army in Port-au-Prince since Jan. 15, three days after the massive 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit. The sales director for UPS' Northern California region, whose parents spent 42 years as Salvation Army officers, is continuing his family's and his company's tradition of service by helping get food, water, medicine and other supplies to people affected by the earthquake. His sales training for UPS' logistics and supply chain consulting has been invaluable.

"Whenever a crisis occurs, logistics is the first thing that needs addressing," says Ed Martinez, director of philanthropy and corporate relations for the UPS Foundation in Atlanta. UPS says it urges its employees to volunteer during natural disasters and other crises. Along with executives who, like Arnold, have their own relationships with charities, the company has a 20-person Logistics Emergency Team in Asia, Europe and the Americas that is trained in humanitarian relief. Team members perform "skill-based volunteering" while still earning their pay. Team members Bill Torres, UPS' compliance coordinator for the Americas, and John Vera, health and safety manager in the region, are spending the next six weeks in the Dominican Republic setting up a distribution center for the World Food Programme's efforts for Haiti. In Haiti, Arnold's base is the Salvation Army's headquarters, a compound that makes up about four city blocks and had a 15-foot wall with razor wire around it before the earthquake hit. It was a haven in a frequently violent neighborhood for the 1,000 members of the Salvation Army church, 700 students at its school and 52 children at the children's home, La Maison du Bonheur. "My immediate concern was with them and what I could do to help," Arnold says. "None of the children were badly injured or killed. ... It's truly a miracle." Some were missing for a few days, though. One, a girl of about 16, was in a local hospital with minor injuries and had been unable to make contact. A sibling, who was walking home with her from another school when the earthquake hit, was killed. Before the earthquake, the compound had a clinic with one doctor and a few nurses whose jobs were primarily first aid and handing out medications. After the earthquake, it became an emergency room, thanks to 12 doctors who flew in soon after the earthquake. They saw more than 100 patients in the first two hours. In five days, there were five births and several amputations, Arnold says. Because so many amputations were done quickly after the earthquake, doctors at the compound are correcting some of the amputations and performing "after care" to prevent infections, using painkillers when available. "They triage in the playground, and the worst cases end up in the Coleman tent," Arnold says. Because of his logistics training, Arnold spends a lot of time at the Port-au-Prince airport helping to unload planes with supplies and making sure aid gets to where it's most needed as quickly as possible. It's not always fast enough. Arnold and a Swiss Army veteran were working with other volunteers last week to find morphine for an amputation being performed at the clinic. They met with one of the United Nations' agencies and were able to get some to the clinic, "But by the time that happened, the amputation had already happened," Arnold says wistfully. Because the walls of the compound were so "compromised" by the earthquake, Arnold says, thousands of people walk through every day, heading to a soccer stadium where the U.N. estimates at least 12,000 are sleeping. "They ask for food and water every day," Arnold says. "It's very difficult to say you can't do that. If you start with a very small distribution, it will get very ugly, very quickly." He says the Salvation Army's long relationship with the community — the compound has been there since 1960 — has helped bolster efforts to get food and medical care to the residents in a somewhat orderly fashion. One day last week, Arnold helped volunteers feed 10,000 people without incident. Arnold says he's working with others to figure out how to repeat the success on a regular basis. Arnold, who is using vacation time to volunteer, expects to be in Port-au-Prince through this week or until the Salvation Army can find someone to replace him. The experience has been full of highs and lows. For example, he says it was "extremely challenging for me not to break down" when the young resident of the children's home offered him her water bottle. "It's definitely been a life-changing experience," Arnold says. He's seen "some things that are horrifying" but is awed by how the Haitians' "spirit has still been strong, how they don't give up and how they are still helping each other."How you can help Haiti: Text How best can you help the victims of the Haiti earthquake? Paul was most recently a writer and character on the Dave Chappell Show - Paul Mooney is brilliant and his comedy legacy is just as rich. he was the writing partner to Richard Pryor, Yes I said Richard Pryor. he was also in the Blazing Saddles Crew. wayyyyyyyy back then.

Check out this skit from The Richard Pryor Show - which was co written by Paul Mooney. everyone remembers The Rev. James L. White. let the chuuch say Amen. this was always one of Richard Pryors most requested characters. seeing him brought to life was surreal. the combination of these two funny men was meant to happen. otherwise we'd have missed a whole lot of serious social commentary. remember kramers slip at the Laugh Factory a couple years ago ? I do; and Paul was the first one to speak frankly on it.

Paul has written a new book on Race Relations in america. I definantly plan to read this book. from all reviews it's all the stuff we of course knew he would say, which is what we are all thinking; but don't want to say.

if you're looking for a good read, why not pick it up and read it with me for February. I'm going to be reading and reviewing a book a month starting this month.

later this week we'll all get a chance to discuss my impressions of "Push" by Sapphire. I read the book ; yes before I plan to see the movie. and yes I am glad I did read the book FIRST. it really made me understand alot of the complexity of the characters. Lots more on that later this week.

The world joins hands tonite, for Haiti. won’t you join us at 8pm and watch the mega cavalcade of stars; all coming together to marshall support, Hope and Help for Haiti. I know I’ll be watching, and hopefully you will too.

for the past five days, just like tonight we watched footage of the devastation in Haiti. late thursday afternoon while watching the news we saw a piece from one of the major relief agencies saying that they thought you shouldn't support YELEHaiti.

Honestly in light of the circumstances, it was both disheartening and shocking; to hear such a major organization spew negativity on Wyclef's organization. knowing that we have made several donations to YELEHaiti, we wondered why any organization would attempt to dissuade anyone from making a donation to a known organization; with a great track record of charitable activism in this area.

for those of you who don't know - Wyclef Jean IS Hatian. Since 2005 Wyclef has tirelessly provided for the people of Cite Soleil and Belvedere, through his charity YELEHAITI. we've featured his work projects and his fundraising event videos here on this blog. it's widely known that Wyclef is more popular with the Hatian people than even their president.

So this attack on his charity totally blindsided us. it's almost as though this charity who made this negative statement about Wyclef's foundation, didn't have any dirty laundry. we all remember the massive mis-use of donations following Hurricane Katrina by several leading charities - including the charity who made these disparaging statements.

just a fyi to the charitywatch folks - as proof of your stupidity, one of the US Haitian Performers / Members of YELEHaiti's team was in Port Au Prince working on setting up a fundraising event; when he lost his life in the earthquake. he was confirmed dead by a cnn crew; along with his wife, kids and his manager. his body was found buried under rubble in a car in Port Au Prince on saturday. Our condolences go out to His Family and the YELEHaiti team. Jimmy O will be sorely missed.

Haitian rapper Jimmy O found dead in Haiti, killed in quake

Rapper Jimmy O, 35, visiting Haiti with Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti foundation, was found dead in a crushed car in downtown Port-au-Prince today. Wyclef mentioned on a CNN interview before departing to Haiti that Jimmy O, born Jean Alexandre, was missing and rumored dead:

“I urge everyone who’s listening right now that knows how great this kid is in Haiti — I need y’all to verify this information. It would be a terrible loss for us.”

CNN happened to be on the scene when Alexandre’s body was discovered in a vehicle on Friday, his identity confirmed by a passport he was carrying. Also present were Alexandre’s agent, as well as the rapper’s wife and two of his three children. All were visibly distraught at the discovery of Alexandre’s body. His agent commented that Alexandre’s death would be “be tremendous in Haiti.” Alexandre worked in Haiti with the Yele Haiti foundation, and discovered and developed talent in the impoverished nation. Since the quake, largely because of social media efforts, Yele Haiti has raised $2m for rescue and relief efforts.

President Obama has already said that the U.S. stands ‘ready to assist’ the Haitian people. The U.S. Military is the only group trained and prepared to offer that assistance immediately. They must do so as soon as possible. The international community must also rise to the occasion and help the Haitian people in every way possible.”

I have personally been in a 5.0 earthquake in Jamaica; 2000 feet up; over a deep bauxite strip mine gorge while riding in a truck; on a suspension bridge.; deep in the middle of rural Jamaica. Honestly speaking, it was one of the scariest moments in my life. this is the largest earthquakes in Haiti's history. there are literally bodies laying in the street. the people and bodies still trapped in the buildings are of a high priority; even though there is no heavy construction equipment to aid in the rescue attempts.

what boggles my mind is why the equipment in Dominican Republic is not being brought into Haiti ? the two countries share the island of Hispanola and not in a neighborly way. DR has a well documented record of treating Haitians very poorly.

amazingly enough the capital of DR, Santa Domingo suffered little to no damage from the same quake. could it be due to the poor living conditions and poverty in Haiti ? we think so. that is why it is very important that when the efforts to rescue Haiti are made, the repair process must include a whole new standard of building laws and safety conditions. Haiti cannot continue on the path of little to nothing. it has to change with this dramatic catastrophe. the extent of damage to the presidential palace is illustrative of the point that Haiti's weak facade has finally broken, to reveal it's depth to the world.

We've asked over and over - why has the world continued to ignore Haiti for so long ?

We need you to speak up because the telecoms are fighting these rules tooth-and-nail. Their pushback began even before the rules were announced. Eighteen Senators (all Republicans) sent a letter to the FCC opposing net neutrality. One Republican senator even announced an effort to prevent the FCC from spending funds to enforce the new rules once they go into effect. Separately, 72 House Democrats sent their own letter to the FCC opposing net neutrality rules. This type of pressure from Congress hasn't go unnoticed at the FCC, so now's the time for citizens like you to speak out and fight back.

Without strong net neutrality rules, we might have to rely upon the good will of large telecoms to protect our access to the diversity of political perspectives. We might have to trust companies like Comcast, which actively and secretly interfered with users' ability to access popular video, photo and music sharing applications; AT&T, which censored anti-Bush comments made by Pearl Jam's lead singer during a concert; and Verizon Wireless, which interfered with NARAL Pro-Choice America's ability to send text messages to its members. We can't let the corporate lobbyists win. What good is free speech if powerful corporations have the power to stifle communications they find objectionable?
