Abdullah Bristles As Palestine Fizzles

King Abdullah with interviewer Fareed Zakaria

Jordan’s King Abdullah is clearly feeling the pressure as the spotlight increasingly focuses on the role Jordan will have to play in resolving the allocation of sovereignty in the West Bank between Jews and Arabs.

This became very clear in the interview given by the King to Fareed Zakaria, in Davos Switzerland during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting on 29 January.

The two-state solution - designed to create a new Arab State between Israel, Jordan and Egypt in the West Bank and Gaza - has comprehensively failed despite the most intensive diplomatic efforts to achieve such an outcome during the last 17 years

The root cause of failure has been the Arab League’s refusal to budge from its 43 years old negotiating position that demands:
  1. the ceding by Israel of sovereignty in 100% of the West Bank and Gaza and
  2. Israel accepting millions of Arabs into the Jewish State

.....  an end to unrealistic Arab demands

President Obama is clearly frustrated that his efforts to achieve the resumption of negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority have failed during the past twelve months.

The President made this abundantly clear as he recently reflected on the success or otherwise of his policies during the first year of his Presidency when he was frank enough to tell Time Magazine in an interview on 21 January:
" that the Middle East peace process has not moved forward. And I think it's fair to say that for all our efforts at early engagement, its not where I want it to be.  ...This is as intractable a problem as you can get."
Despite the President's disappointment he still expressed the following optimism:
"Moving forward, though, we are going to continue to work with both parties to recognize what I think is ultimately their deep-seated interest in a two-state solution in which Israel is secure and the Palestinians have sovereignty..."

Hamas has accepted Israel's right to exist and would be prepared to nullify its charter, which calls for the destruction of Israel, Aziz Dwaik, Hamas's most senior representative in the West Bank, said on Wednesday.

Before anyone gets too wrapped up on this, take a look at who said it and where he was saying it from. This didn't come from Khaled Mashaal, Ismail Haniyeh, or Mahmoud Zahar. It came from a guy who has no sway within Hamas. He is their "representative" in the West Bank. Nothing more, nothing less. He is a puppet that says and does what he is told. What actually did he say?

"The [Hamas] charter was drafted more than 20 years ago," Dwaik noted, adding that his movement would even be prepared to "nullify" the document.

And I'll receive all of Bill Gates' money when he dies. What idiot would fall for this empty promise? Of course it would have to be some blind leftists intent on suicide or a diplomat.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Wednesday that Israel must have a presence in the West Bank to stop rockets from being imported even after a peace agreement is achieved, the first time he has spelled out such a demand.

Mr. Netanyahu has every right for this request. Nothing the "palestinians" have done would lead to trusting them or what they may do. Mahmoud Abbas will continue to play games and Hamas will commence making inroads into the West Bank if Israel leaves altogether. This so-called occupation is nothing more than self preservation that Israel has every right to.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has proposed that the Obama administration negotiate the final borders of a Palestinian state with Israel, a Palestinian official said Wednesday, as a US envoy headed to the region for another attempt to restart Mideast peace talks.

Jordan and Egypt need to replace the Palestinian Authority as the Arab partner to negotiate with Israel on the allocation of sovereignty in the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem according to a paper entitled
“Regional Alternatives To The Two State Solution” written by Israel’s former National Security Advisor - Giora Eiland

Eiland‘s paper contains two suggested alternatives to the “two-state solution”. He states that there are other creative alternatives that will present themselves once Jordan and Egypt replace the Palestinian Authority as Israel‘s negotiating partner.

Tennis and politics don't mix

The planned demonstration by the Australian Friends for Palestine (AFP) against Israeli player Shahar Pe’er participating in the ladies singles at the Australian Tennis Open in Melbourne - will ensure a negative response from the estimated 600000 spectators  planning to attend this year’s first major Grand Slam tennis event to be contested over the next two weeks.

This follows a similar demonstration against Pe’er in Auckland last weeek.

Whilst the demonstration will no doubt attract some media interest and bring its grandstanding participants some publicity - it will fail to gain any support for the following message being disseminated by its spokesperson:
“Our campaign is focused on raising awareness about Israel’s apartheid policies and practices against the Palestinians, as well as the war crimes it perpetrated in Gaza. As long as Israel continues to oppress and violate the Palestinian people, we consider it our right to challenge any efforts by Israel to normalise its standing in the international arena.”

The world waits with bated breath as the marriage counsellor - Egypt - frantically tries to bring Fatah and Hamas to the mosque to renew their vows once again after a particularly bruising and public slanging match that has seen the West Bank and Gaza split into separate Hamas and Fatah fiefdoms whilst supporters of both factions have been murdered, imprisoned, tortured,  discriminated against and had their legs broken over the past two years.

The situation in the past year alone is best summarized by the
